Madam (nee Steffy)
Hi there,
We adopted Madam (nee Steffy) in late December of 2010, an 8 year old medium hair grey tabby. We instantly fell in love with her sweet personality and beautiful emerald eyes. When we arrived home, she found a spot on the couch and curled up. It was clear that she felt very at home right from the beginning. We were told that she had some dietary concerns and had to be given a hypoallergenic food. As it turned out, this food wasn't working very well for her, and she was having some problems in the litter box end of things for the first month. With a little patience, understanding and lots of love, we found a food that works for her and she has been problem free ever since. Our vet is amazed that she has gone from just 7 lbs to nearly 8.5 lbs in such a short time. She loves to cuddle, curl up near a sunny window, and most of all watch us cook. We are so thrilled with the joy that Madam has brought into our home, she is truly one of a kind. So please, if you are considering adopting a cat, give an older gal a chance, you wont regret it. Sincerely yours, Andrea |
Gryphon (nee Lenny) & Callie (nee Carrie)
Thank you to all the staff at BHS. We recently adopted Lenny who we renamed Gryphon, the biggest sweetheart you will ever meet! He has a loud purring motor on him and is a constant snuggler. He's also developed a love to play with his krinkle ball. He's adapted well to our existing cat, Callie (Carrie), who we adopted as a kitten from BHS a year and a half ago. They've started playing together and are very patient with each other, especially around food. We just wanted to let you know how happy we are to be in our forever home. Here are a couple of photos to show just how relaxed we can be!
Thank you,
Julie & Jonathan |
Zoey (nee Spook)
I adopted Zoey (nee Spook) at the end of September 2010 when she was just 6 months old. I could not be more happy and in love with her! She is the sweetest, most loving little cat. She's just over 8 months old now and everyone whose met her remarks at how cute she is. She is very healthy and loves attention and cuddling.
She took about a week to be comfortable exploring the whole house and I'm happy to report no issues at all in getting her used to her new home. She loves to follow anyone throughout the house and when she's not sure where you are, meows until you call out so she can find you and sit down close to you. Zoey loves to chase her toys and will even fetch and return them so you can throw them for her again.
I am just in awe of this beautiful cat and her friendly, loving personality. Anyone looking to adopt a new family pet would benefit from coming into your shelter--I don't think I could have found a better cat anywhere else!
Thank you so much,
Jenna | |

Sadie (nee Speckles)
We adopted Sadie (who was named Speckles by the Humane Society) a couple of years ago. She was just a baby when we got her and her dog mom was named Chessie. She is very much loved by her three other human siblings and her mom and dad. She has lots of energy but is also very patient and sweet with our children. Over the past two years she has become a regular visitor to Bronte's off lead park and she loved camping in Algonquin this summer. When she was only one year old we discovered she had an "alter ego" and she visited an elementary school as "ECO DOG". She taught the kids all about loving the environment and visited many different classes and children. Sadie has been a great addition to our family! Thank you for taking care of her when she needed you the most.
Cheers, Michael, Christine, Noah (10), Sarah (8), Sophie (1) and Sadie! |
Hobbs
Hi, Here is a picture of Hobbs with my daughter Kaitlyn. |
Rex
Rex is happy to become a new member of our family, he is still recovering from his injuries but seem to be doing well, he is active and very loving. He is very curious and intelligent and enjoys the company of everyone in the house. Rex can now enjoy his life in a loving environment and loves to watch TV.

Kiya (nee Joy)
We adopted Kiya just over 1 year ago from the BHS. She has been a wonderful addition to our family. She is very energetic and love to play with feet and cuddle. She is just over 55lbs now. Kiya is also very smart, she always lets you know if she wants something. She will bug you until you figure out what she wants even if it is just a treat. She is also very vocal, it’s not a growl but her way of talking, she talks back more than my three year old. Kiya has been wonderful with my daughter who was 2 when we got her. She also took to my new baby wonderfully! She is always careful around the baby and basically has no problem with him playing with her ears. In her mind attention is attention. Kiya is very protective of the kids too, if I put my daughter in tim,e out and Kiya is around she will bark at me until I take her out of time out. Kiya also loves going to doggie daycare, she usually goes 1-2 times a week. We are so happy that we have Kiya as a part of our family. In this picture is my 8 month old son and Kiya. Sincerely; Jamie MacRae |
Izzy & Chubby (nee The Chief)
We adopted Izzy and Cubby (formerly The Chief) as tiny 8 week old kittens. Instantly, they adjusted to life with our family, which is asking a lot considering they have 5 and 3 year old boys to contend with. Six months later, they are happy, healthy, and completely adored. Izzy is the first one by my side whenever I enter a room and always greets me with an easy purr of contentment. She is sweet, playful, and very affectionate. Cubby quickly became my 3 year olds favourite member of the family. For his part, Cubby really seems to enjoy (or at least happily tolerates) all the cuddles he receives from the boys. He is, without a doubt, the most gentle and patient cat I have ever know. We are so happy with decision to adopt. Thank you BHS for all the amazing work you do.
|
Motley (nee Fernando)
I adopted Motley (formerly known as Fernando) a couple of months ago, and have fallen in love. He was named after the band Motleycrue and the name has suited him more than I could have ever predicted! One minute he is flying through the house playfully terrorizing everyone in his way and the next he is the ultimate ladies man, kissing my nose and trying to get under the covers. He is the perfect type of cat for myself and for my family, and we are all enjoying watching him grow into the handsome cat we know he will be!

Rikki and Binky
Rikki and Binky are loving their new house and they wanted to tell you Rikki - I love my new home! So much room to run around, and on top of Binky - This is awesome. The food is incredible! At first, my funny Thanks, |
Kali and Kai (nee Splatter and Tinsel)
Hello Burlington Humane! Since adopting Tinsel and Splatter last week, we have renamed them Kai and Kali. We needed to give our 1.5 year old cat, Sushi, a new friend since losing our other cat just the week before and she was very lonely. We were prepared for one kitten, but when we saw these sweet little sisters we couldn't leave one behind. Kai was the outgoing and fiesty one of the two, with Kali being a little more shy and skiddish and very dependent on Kai. Their big sister wasn't sure what to think of them at first, being a little intimidated by two of them. We were worried that since the kittens were already so bonded to eachother that Sushi may get left out but in just a few days Kali has come out of her shell and all three of them are tumbling around in one big ball of fur! They all love to play, wrestle and snuggle together. Kai and Kali love anything that jingles and spend most of their day making all kinds of noise! We are so happy to see Sushi enjoying the company of the kittens and even though having three cats is not something we expected we certainly can't imagine being without them! Thank you BHS! Meaghan & Jon |
Jazz
Jazz was a little nervous when she first adopted us, but she made herself quite at home when she discovered the birds and the squirrels at the bird feeder. She spends hours at the window watching them. Her favourite spot in the house is at the end of the sofa where she can get a good look outside between naps. When the cold weather arrived she discovered the comfort of a warm spot in front of the fireplace after hours of bird-watching. The people in Jazz's house are still getting to know her and her ways - and vice-versa - and we're all happy to be together.

Sophie (nee China)
We adopted China, who we now call "Sophie" back in July. We weren't sure how our other two kitties would feel about sharing their home with a girl.
Both cats were terrified of her but Sophie didn't give up on them. She kept trying to engage them in tail chasing, head butts and running full speed on two hind legs. She eventually won over our Maine coon and they're now great friends. As for out other furry guy, he knows she's here to stay and he is accepting that he is her new "play toy" and even appears to enjoy it every so often. We want to thank everyone at Burlington Humane Society for caring so much about the health and welfare of all the animals who are in their temporary care until they find their "forever homes" -Alexandra & Brian |
Terra
Hello Sorry it took so long for me to send you an update on Terra. It took her quite a bit to get used to things. She was very skiddish and scared. She hid under my bed for about 5 days. Well now shes the Queen of the House!! She lies everywhere gets into everything haha. She is super happy and shes loved by all who come visit her. Everyday she does something new and I cannot wait for the day of her understanding her name and sitting in my lap..hopefully in time that can be reached:)
Thank you for my beautiful kitty!! Shes perfect Jenna |
London (nee Rocko)
London has been in his new forever home for about six months now. As a first time dog guardian I certainly have my hands full dealing with a deaf chihuahua, but after special private training and reading as much information I can about living with deaf dogs, London is very obedient and responds to some hand signals. I'm continually improving his "vocabulary!" That said, he has no idea he's deaf and doesn't let it bother him one bit. He's incredibly social, making best friends with absolutely every cat and dog he can find! He doesn't let his 5 pound size stop him from approaching and befriending even the largest dog. He DOES know he's cute, however, and will use that to his advantage to (try to) get anything he wants. I look forward to a lifetime of living and learning with London!
Love, Taryn PS - In the attached photo he can be seen bundled up in his winter coat and in his car seat getting ready to go for a long walk at the park. :)

Findley (nee Rambo)
Findley (nee Rambo)
I thought I would let you know how Rambo (now Findley) is doing. I started my search for a pet on December 28 - I took a look at all of the wonderful pets at BHS, but from the start Rambo pulled on my heartstrings. After taking a day to contemplate, I came back to the shelter on December 30 and adopted Rambo. It's the best decision I could have made as he is a very special cat (as you all told me). As you can see, he has already made himself quite at home (as you can see by the photos!) and has found his favourite spots in the apartment (I've permanently lost one of my chairs to him already!)
Everyone in my family is very anxious to meet him - and his grandmother already spoils him! Thanks so much for looking after Rambo until we found each other. -Darlene |
Cinnamon (nee Andrew)
Hello! We wanted to thank the terrific people at the Burlington Humane for helping us to adopt Cinnamon (formerly Andrew). He was very shy when he first arrived here, preferring to stay under beds and chairs. Slowly he has become much more confident and now plays with our first BHS adoptee Smokey (formerly Benjamin) when he’s not stretching, napping and generally looking very cute. Cinnamon enjoys looking out at the neighbourhood from his place in the office or at the squirrels in the backyard. He has fit right into our daily routine and cuddles to watch TV as if he’s done it forever. We love our ginger boy! Thanks again, Mike and Marilyn |
Sarah
The following poem is dedicated to Sarah who passed alittle more than a year ago. I don't believe there could be a greater success story. She was adopted by the Robinson family over ten years ago through Burlington Animal Aid and quickly became an essential part of the family. She attended many Pooch Promenades always willing to support the cause and give back when she could. She enjoyed a good life, a chance that she would never have had without the help of your shelter and volunteers that were working so hard even way back then. She is sadly missed at this time of year, but remembered fondly forever.
Be them young or be them old in days long past or those untold They help us through the lonely times Make us laugh, and sometimes cry In this life where friends may be few We may never find a heart so true as the one that beats within their chest until the day when they must rest Our fine furry four legged friends Give us love until the end -Thank you all from the Robinson and the Lizotte families

Kenzie (nee Janny)
Hello,
We adopted Kenzie (was Janny) just over four weeks ago. We had recently lost our kitty, and thought she would make a great companion for our other cat, Willow (whom we adopted in 2004). Willow may not have shared the same views but she is slowing warming up to having a puppy in the house as you can see in the picture. Kenzie loves to play, especially with other dogs and has made many new friends. She also loves to cuddle and nap with us. She is doing well with training and is very quick to learn. She is going to be a big girl and has gained 10 pounds since we brought her home. Her ears stood up one at a time and have probably doubled in size in the past three weeks. I can't tell you how wonderful it feels to give a forever home to an adopted animal. Our adopted pets have brought so much love and happiness to our home. Thanks to all the dedicated workers and volunteers at the Burlington Humane Society for doing such a great job! Sincerely, Amanda and Kevin |
Ranger
Just wanted to let you know that Ranger has fit right in with everyone. He is full of energy and he likes to torment our visiting dog (my daughter's) but I think he has fit in quite well and there is a great loving relationship between everyone in our home and Ranger.
Thanks for keeping him for us. -Bob & Donna |
Henry (nee O'Henry)
I just wanted to update you on Henry (formerly O'Henry). As you can see from the photo, Henry has had a difficult time adjusting to his new home (just kidding!). From the moment he arrived at this new home Henry has quickly settled in! It didn't take long for him to find his favourite places, whether it is a spot in the warm sun or on a soft bed. As time has passed the playful side of Henry has definitely surfaced! It was just a matter of finding the right toy. While Henry may sleep away most of his day, as cats like to do, he is always running to the door to greet me upon arrival. Thanks to everybody at the BHS for the great work that you do.

Nala
Hi, I realize it's closing time, but without a loooooooong story, I wanted Nala's beautiful friends to see a recent picture. Sorry, I don't have a digital camera, but, this is from my web cam (and is my screensaver!) . Doesn't she have the most beautiful kind face you've ever seen? What an array of colours, moss green/turquoise eyes, dark and light grey hair, white, and that touch of peach. Truly a beautiful little girl.....(she could have bucked teeth for all I care lol). She has such a warm wonderfun temperment. That is an homage to you, the caretakers!
She is much loved, so much loved. She is so personable with people that come in, she greets my family, not shy anymore, and her purrrrrrrr!!!!!!!! (her motorboat, as my friend put it lol).
I love her so much and she has become the greatest companion! So much thanks to you all for your special attention and care - what a wonderful little girl you allowed her to be!
Sincerely,
Nancy |
Trixie (nee Ethel)
After loosing our beloved Buddee one week before Christmas, Camilo, our Mexican Tabby has been so lonely and sad and crying a lot because he grew up always with another cat. So, on February the 6th John and I visited the shelter for first time with the intention to adopt, having in mind one of the kitties that I used to take care of; someone more than 6 months in the shelter waiting to be adopted. We ended up choosing a lovely girl named Ethel and we've renamed her Trixie. She was so cool in the acquaintance room, walking around and all over us and very alert. On the way home she was in silence…., no noise…
At home she had to be in a room by herself while she and Camilo got to know each other through the door. The first night they did not let us sleep, both were crying at each other. On the second day we decided they need to see each other, so we opened the door a little bit and they could see each other. Much growling and hissing, but no scratching. In the afternoon, while Camilo was sleeping in our bedroom, we let Trixie out so she could visit the house by herself. That night she slept again in her own room. On the third day they finally met with no barriers and it was a huge non-event. They touched noses and walked their separate ways. We can say that Trixie is a cool girl, they never really fought, but now she is showing her true colours: she behaves like our home has been hers forever. Camilo, John and Rose |
Sammy (nee Cubby)
I would like to thank all of you for taking such good care of me. I became what I am because of all the wonderful treatment I received in your care.
Meeting my new family was so exciting for all of us... Until, Julia (21) said, Cubby is a nice name for a kitten but it may not cut it when he grows into that long tail of his. Then, for the rest of the evening all these names were flying around the room and finally they all agreed that I looked and acted like a ''Sammy''. So, Sam I am... My family ADORES me. They seem to think I'm smart because I am very alert and once in a while I stare at the TV. I even heard Lisa say that I must have been reincarnated from a gentle smart man to a cat. Richard (15) noticed I like music because every time he puts music on his computer, I go check it out and I'm not afraid of his guitars. The boss Gary, thinks I'm pretty special too... Life is good for me here. I am free to sleep in any bed I want and, I play and purr all day long. C'est la vie, PURRR!!! The whole family sends their thanks and best wishes to all of you... -Sammy (Cubby)

Scotch (nee Kringle)
We adopted Kringle on January 10th, 2010. When he came home for the first time, he was very shy and untrusting. But just 3 short weeks later, at only 12 weeks old, he has come full circle. He's come to be very energetic, playful, and has already mastered basic commands like "sit", "stay", and "come". He is a free-spirited and fun-loving pup who has fully embraced being the newest member of our family.

Bran (nee Comet)
Hello to everyone at the humane society!
I would first like to start off by saying thank you so much for taking such good care of Bran (comet). He is the most well adjusted dog I`ve seen and that's because of all the hard work and love everyone gave him. Bran has from day one fit in perfectly with our family, we couldn't have asked for a better dog! It seems like everyday he's growing more and more, take a look for yourself with these pictures. Thanks again, Kristen and Lawrence |
Abbey (nee Jesse)
A quick email to let you know that little Jessie (we have named her Abbey) is settling in well to her new home and doing great! She has been very playful since her arrival and still wants to be held and cuddled as often as possible. Craig and I cant thank you enough for all of your hard work to help save Abbey and her sister, we are thrilled to have her as a new addition to our family, she puts a smile on our face at all times! We're going to have to keep working at house training, but she does go to the training mat a fair bit which is great - as she gets a little older and we continue to train her, I'm sure she will be house trained in no time.
Thank you again and keep us posted on her sister - I'm sure she has already found a home!
I am attaching a few photos of Abbey to bring a smile to your face - you should be very proud of all of your hard work!
Sincerely,
Samantha & Craig | |

Stanley (nee Pushpa)
We thought we'd send a little up-date on our "Stanley". We adopted Stanley in November after he chose us as "his people" at the shelter!! We instantly knew Stanley was the kitty for us when we saw how full of energy and mischeivious he was with his siblings....hopping on their heads and nibbling on their ears. We thought the time had come to introduce another cat to our home. Our resident cat, Lola, begged to differ. There was a period of adjustment (overturned lamps, high speed chases and strange noises at all hours of the night!!) Thank goodness this only lasted a short time. Stan and Lola are quite the team now. When Lola (the wife) speaks and Stan (the husband) does what he's told .......all remains happy and peaceful J . We are so happy that we stopped by the Shelter that day in November! Stanley is a terrific addition to our family. He's always happy to sit on your lap (or sleep on your head). He's a chatty little fellow that enjoys playing fetch for hours on end. Crinkle balls are his favourite. We're attaching a picture of our furry friends (Lola is the tortoiseshell and Stanley is black).
Thank you to everyone at the shelter that took such good care of Stanley before we welcomed him to our home......you guys are the best. Tami, Rob & Morgan (Lola too!!!!) |
Pluto
I adopted Pluto about 2 months ago and just wanted everyone to know that she is really happy :). She came home and was a little timid at first, she was very jumpy and didnt like to come out into the open much. That has all changed now as she loves to greet everyone she meets with a nice bump with her head and some loud purring. She loves chasing around her fellow feline friends and keeps them in tip top shape. Im really happy that she has grown to love the home she came into, she the most friendly cat anyone could have asked for.
Paul |
Coco (nee Chocolate Chip)
Again, thank-you for all your help! It took about 2 days for "Coco"/formerly "Chocolate Chip" to settle in. Now her and "Toby" are the best of friends. We still can't believe that no one adopted Coco sooner! She has an amazing temperament and is so affectionate. She loves to play and her and Toby have some rough wrestling matches. We were worried that Toby would be a bully and intimidate her, not so! She gives it right back to him and is the aggressive one most times.
Thank you for all your help! Ross & Ruth Richardson and the matching book ends Coco/formly "Chocolate Chip" and Toby/formly "Sher Khan"
|
Rocky
I adopted Rocky on January 2nd, 2010. He was shy at first but it did not take him long to break out of his shell. Rocky is doing great! He loves to go for walks and is having fun at Puppy School! He loves to play with anything he can get his paws on including my cat and his now best friend Tucker and my boyfriend's Miniature Schnauzer Tyson. He is a wonderful addition to our family and we are having so much fun watching him grow!
I have attached a few pictures for you to chose from! |
Rhodey (nee Poncho)
Poncho has been renamed as Rhodey, short for Colonel James T. Rhodes.
We would just like to let you know that Rhodey is healthy and happy to be in his forever home. He has gladly accepted his role as 'man of the house' and oversees all of the comings and goings. Although he may be reluctant to admit it, he does love a good belly rub, and on occasion he has been known to purr. The only issue we have with him, is that he is too cute, which allows him to get away with all his shennanigans.
Thanks for everything!
-The Struthers Family. |
Blue (nee Tigger)
I just wanted to give you a quick update on Tigger. We changed his name to Blue. He is now 5.5 months and is already 60 pounds. He's going to be a big boy. He finished his first Obedience class last week and passed with flying colors. He is a very gentle dog. Great with kids and other dogs. We love him very much. Thankyou for bringing us together.

Thumper (nee Django)
Hi all Anne |
Misty (nee Silver)
I just wanted to write and say thank you so much for our beautiful new cat, Silver. On our drive home we tried to figure out a new name for her. The kids said everything from Spaghetti, to Stripey, to Mercedes, even Ketchup! We finally settled on Misty.
She's a gorgeous cat and she was so quiet and relaxed in the car with us. When we got her home she slowly went around exploring the house with the kids following eagerly. She's got such a fantastic personality, so much fun and yet unphased by all the new experiences. By Sunday evening I think the kids had tired her out enough and she was ready for a good rest. She's eating well and had no problems finding her litter tray. She definitely seems to feel very at home already. The kids didn't want to go to school this morning but Misty came to the window to watch us go and I'm sure she will be happy on our return! Again, thank you for our beautiful addition to the family! The Stoba family |
Emma (nee Caroline)
On September.26th/09 our family adopted a beagle cross puppy from the B.H.S. You referred to her as 'Caroline' (or P3...puppy #3 i think). Her name now is Emma (nicknamed our little M&M because she's sweet). She's about to celebrate her 7 month birthday & we wanted to give you an update on how she is doing. Emma knows how to shake a paw (both paws), high five, lye down, back up, sit, & roll over & NO!. She was also spayed & the surgery went very well (she's cute when shes drowsy). She is now better with having her nails trimmed & filed without having to be restrained, & she is allowed to be loose in the bedroom at night time without any accidents in over 3 months. Attached is some pictures of what she looks like now (still cute as a button), she is a little over 25 pounds & still growing. Thanks for giving us our little Emma-nem, we love her so much we don't remember what it was like without her around.
Sincerely, Michelle & Jim

Demero
Ah, Demero. A cat of many names. When we adopted him we changed his name from Demaro to Bentley. Then back to Demaro, but he is also known as Hal Gill. (After Hal Gill from the Montreal Canadiens) We found out Demero had a kidney problem but with his special diet it's all good. Demero and Sarah (our other cat we adopted a while ago, she is a snooty calico) fight sometimes but at the end of the day you find them curled up on the bed together. Demero is known for looking wide eyed at random times. He also loves to eat! (Though he only gets his food and some treats.) You walk into the kitchen, open a cupboard and Demero is there. He is looking a lot better than when we first got him. I guess watching Sarah, the grooming freak, he learned how to groom himself. He also seems to be "more cat" then when he first arrived. His favourite thing to do is curl up on the Montreal Canadiens' blanket on the living room couch. Whenever there is hockey on, Demero is always there. He is a handsome boy and we was a great addition to this family.

Nellie (nee Penelope)
We adopted Nellie on Labour Day weekend and we are so happy to report that she is really loving her forever home. She loves to go for long walks, play fetch in the backyard, hang out with friends at the dog park and just chill in the living room with her family. Our kids just adore her and she is excited every day to go with us to pick them up from school. Nellie has lots of school kids who come to say hi everyday and she loves the attention! Nellie is just about to complete her first round of puppy training and has really done well, although her favourite part is catching up with her puppy pals. She is one of the most social dogs that we have ever known. We had been to your fabulous facility on several occasions and were waiting to find the right match for us. We feel so blessed that Nellie came into our family and can't imagine our lives without her. |
George (nee Kris)

Topaz (nee Smudge)
Dear Friends
I can't tell you how happy I am that I adopted Topaz also named Toppy-Toe, his nickname. I was kindly shown all the kitty cats at Animal Aid on March 22nd 2010 ,which was my birthday, with my mum.
I was feeling quite down because on March 8th 2010, only two weeks before, my 16 1/2 year old, beloved, black long hair cat, named Doogie had passed away. I had apoted him from Animal Aid years earlier while volunteering on Fairview St. I really had no intention of adopting that day, I was merely looking.
I was kindly shown all the kitty cats and as adorable as they all were, I really didn't feel a connection with any of them until I was shown the last room and the last cage in fact. Call it fate perhaps, he ran out, brushed against my legs, let out a cute meow and funnily enough he was another black long hair cat. My affection for him was instant and so on my birthday he was a gift from my mum. He is the most curious cat I have ever owned, it doesn't matter what I am doing, he sticks his nose in the middle of everything. Sometimes not such a good thing while I am preparing dinner. He doesn't try and eat what I am making but he wants to see what I am doing. He follows me everywhere in the house from room to room and runs to me every time I call his name. He sits by the front door upon my arrival and greets me with a cute meow. The positions in which he sleeps are halarious.
I truly love him with all of my heart.
Thank you animal Aid for making not only loving homes for these lovely animals but for making me so happy, he will be apart of my life for years to come. I adore him.

Hunter
Hunter is a great dog and is adjusting very well. Just a quick note and a few pics to let you all know that my family is really enjoying Hunter and, he seems not to mind us too much either. He is a great boy, and has now completed his obedience training, so he now is handsome and well mannered. We are so happy, we found him through your web page and couldn't imagine life without him, Keep up all your good work!

Roxy (nee Grace)
She has been an absolutely wonderful addition to our family and we are just so happy to share these recent photos taken of Roxy.
Best wishes and happy holidays to you all. Cheers, - Rob & Stephanie

Wilbur (nee Eddie)
Hi there,
I hope you're well! I just wanted to submit a Happy Tails for our puppy, Wilbur. He was formerly known as Eddie at the shelter. We adopted our little puppy, Wilbur last June and it was one of the best decisions of our lives! Wilbur is a fun, cuddly, handsome pup who has grown both in size and in our hearts. He loves to cuddle up next to us on the couch or even on the bed and he loves playing fetch and chase! And though he is full of puppy spirit, he is also a very well-taught little boy. He has successfully completed puppy classes, winning first place in some of the puppy games! We are so proud of him and couldn't be any happier to have him in our lives. Thanks, Burlington Humane Society for uniting us with our beloved Wilbur! - Josh and Tanya |
Sadie (nee Ginny)
Dear Burlington Humane Society, First of all I would like to thank you for continuing to find wonderful loving homes for so many wonderful pets. Your hard work and dedication in placing animals into forever-long happy-tails is amazing! Without you so many more pets would not have the chance to be the sweet loving pets they are destined to be! My husband Adam and I adopted Sadie (originally Ginny) June 26, 2010. She is a beautiful natured Beagle mix. She is so loving and affectionate. She makes a perfect companion for our 13 year on dog Cody (She keeps him young!). As you can see in the picture Sadie and Cody sleep together, they started snuggling on the second day together. Sadie is still working on her manners but is very smart and loves spending time with us. I can’t imagine my life without her. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for introducing me to her! She has truly stolen my heart! Jenn |
Clara
Clara is doing really well. She adjusted amazingly. It took about an hour before she seemed at home. She has investigated every corner in the first floor and the basement where we watch TV. She has claimed the most comfortable chair in the house as hers. She has gone upstairs but for some reason doesn’t want to stay up there very much. She spent the night on the back window and back of the sofa. Didn’t fuss at all during the night. She really likes watching the birds out the back window and door – we feed the birds, squirrels, etc. there. When she wants attention she will get underfoot and meow a lot. We will sit down (which is what she wants) and then she will curl up at our feet and sleep. She likes to have the company. All in all, she is great and we love her already. Thank you all very much. Shadow (nee Waylon)
Dear Burlington Humane Society Staff; Waylon who we know call Shadow has been with us for just over a week now and it feels like he has been in our hearts forever. Charlie our dog and Shadow have gotten along like old mates from the minute shadow stepped in the door they eat sleep and play together and it is so sweet to see. Evan is just thrilled to have Shadow as a part of his life he cuddles him and loves him every day. We are happy to report that Shadow does not meow constantly and is not bothered about outdoors at all! The only time we hear him meow is when he is hungry or wants someone to play with him. Thank you again for all of you kind loving support to all the animals that come to you and a very big thank you for bringing Shadow into our lives! Pictures to follow Sean Oriol Evan and Charlie Rhodes. |
Emma (nee Grounder)
Emma is doing extremely well, she is very happy in her new home and is getting along great with Annie.(Lotus) We enjoy listening to music and frequently watch live concert DVD's.Much to our surprise so does Emma (Grounder) as she sits on one of our speakers from our surround sound and is very content. We put blankets on each main speaker and Annie lies on one and Emma on the other.
Thank you once again to all of you for taking such great care of all the animals. Your hard work and dedication is heart-warming, and very much appreciated! - Suzanne |
Tilly
Just thought that I would let you know we have just returned from our summer camping trip in Algonquin Park - Tilly had a blast! She and her " big sister " Emmy spent the week boating, assisting in the location and catching of fish, hiking, swimming and rolling in every patch of sand and grass possible. The 'girls' had such busy days that they missed most of the campfires at night - they were too pooped to party! Tilly is coming to her 1 year anniversary with us and we can not imagine life without her!

Dwayne
In August 2009 we adopted Dwayne – now known as Tigger. He has been a real joy to our house! He's our very first furry friend. Having taken my two kids through all the rooms and visiting all the beautiful cats there, the decision was difficult to choose one, to say the least. They wanted them all!
Tigger was in one of the last rooms we visited. A spunky, crazy, 5-month old ginger kitten stole both their hearts. We took Tiggy home a couple days later, and life has never been the same since! He has full roam of the house, new toys, and all the loving he can handle – and then some. He is patient with my 6 year old's never ending hugs, and keeps up with chasing my 10 year old up and down the stairs trying to nibble his toes or grab a bite of sock. He sleeps on our bed at night, and is the best fly catcher bar none! I no longer worry about the flies or daddy-long-legs in the house – Tigger eats them up for breakfast! I can say that Tigger has been a wonderful addition to our family – we adore him. - Rachel |
Teddy (nee Binky Boo)
Teddy (nee Binky Boo)
On August 28, we adopted Teddy (nee-Binky). Teddy was just 10 lbs the day he came home. Now, 3 weeks later he weighs 18lbs. He got his name because he looks like a little black bear with big bear paws. Teddy's a real character. He loves playing hide in seek in the gardens in his big back yard. He is very loveable and snuggly. Teddy loves meeting new people on our daily walks. He always greets us with a happy bark and a wagging tail!

Boo (nee Crackle)
I am pleased to announce the newest arrival to my family. Boo (original name was crackle) was born on July 4th and came home with me at the tender age of 8 weeks old. He's a little blurry in this picture because he didn't want to stay still for the camera. Boo was going to be his nickname but he's now getting used to me calling him my bubba boo so Boo it is.
His first day home he managed to find many hiding places on mommy. I found him in a drawer, in a basket and even in the hollow of a stepstool that is kept behind the toilet in the bathroom. He's a very sneaky little guy. He didn't speak for his first two days but found his voice just yesterday. He has been spending his time exploring his new home and is a little skittish but is slowly getting used to his new surroundings and of course his new mom. In fact at 2am this morning Boo decided that he could jump on my bed and that the duvet was an awesome thing to play with. He spent his time walking up and down my legs and also discovered my side table with cords to a light and my cell phone. When it woke me he sat very still as if he was a statue on the table. He did look very cute but of course was removed from the area. By the third time I do believe he understand when mommy told him he couldn't play on the table. One of my favourite things to see is when I ask him who's the pretty boy he flips upside down on his back and wiggles his body. I love my boy. - Cheers Hilary

Julia (nee Daisy)
Our family adopted Daisy this past weekend and I just thought I would give you an update. Our daughter liked the name Daisy but decided she wanted to rename her to Julia. So Daisy is now Julia. She has settled in to our home very well, she is just the most loving cat and fits into our family. Sam, our other cat, has adapted well to Julia too and last night I caught them chasing Julias new toy mouse together. Julia does love to climb and is very curious about the curtains and high cabinets and has had to be rescued twice, but we keep a good eye on her and have kept her happy and safe. I don't think she stops purring and has taken to sleeping on Sydneys bed, which was Sydneys dream.
Here is a picture of sleepy little Julia, as you can see she has found a nice plush throne to call her own, she has made herself quite comfortable which is great. We are thrilled to have her in our family. - Kelly Anne |
London
We adopted London back in June. She immediately took interest in our place and eventually befriended our 9-year-old cat Ziggy. They are now very good friends. London is very high energy and loves the belly rubs. She is definitely the lap cat we were told she was. We have nicknamed her the "rocket" because she zooms around our apartment like crazy. London has really become an important part of our lives and love her tremendously. Thank you!!!!!

Harley (nee Moppet)
HI - just want to up date you on Harley. He is very happy in his new home and we love him to bit's. His favorite toys are lights and shadows - so he amused himself and us for hours. He gets along famously with our older pets Bowie (dog) and Jaz(cat). While still concerned with food, he respects his place in line and always lets Jaz go first. He is huggable and lovable running to the door to greet us as soon as he hears the key in the door, looking to get picked up and hugged. He is a wonderful addition to our family.
- Thank-you for rescuing him and thank you Harley for picking me as your new family!

Lily (nee Coral)
Attached is a photo of Lily (formerly Coral). We adopted Miss Lily on Sept 30/09. She was in the last cage I looked into and she just seemed to say, "take me home" So we did!! Within a day she was cozy and happy with us, and she accepted our friendly yellow lab, Charlie, as a housemate too. Lily stays indoors and watches the birds and chipmunks from an upstairs window. Lily loves to be brushed and petted. She is very playful and chases toys up and down the hallways. And she sleeps on our bed and purrs! She's very chatty too! Lily is two and the most perfect addition to our household. Thank you Burlingon Humane Society.

Bosley (nee Charlie)
I just wanted to give you an update on Charlie (name is now Bosley) He is doing well. He is energetic and a lot to handle but it currently going through training and is learning. He has mastered sit and lie down and is getting better at coming when called. He gets along with everyone, and he loves children and plays very nicely with them. He and our cat are ok with each other, he wants to play but she puts him in his place. He is a work in progress but we love him and are happy we decided to make him a part of our family. Thanks again.

George (nee Kris)
I want to thank everyone for looking after me so well and for finding me such a good home. I am treated very well.
Healthwise I am doing a little better. I am tapering off the Prednisone and am trying out some special food. It tastes good but the Kitty Treats taste better. Last Friday we had a party and I stayed and entertained all the girls. It was a tough job but someone had to do it. As you can see from the picture, I am now catching up on my rest. I'll ask David to send you another letter soon. -Kris (and David)

Keeper (nee Ethel)
Just wanted to send a quick note to let you know Kepper is doing great. She is a gangly teenager now and everyone just loves her. Spence, my other rescue is absolutely smitten. She fit in right from day one and has been the perfect addition to the family. So smart, gentle and sweet and growing everyday! I would love to see pic's of her sisters and brother, so to Lucy, Freddy and Ricky's parents if you can let us know how they are!
Thank you to everyone again! Nancy |
Java
Java nee Vanessa
My name is Renee and along with my partner, John, we adopted "Vanessa" back in November. It's been about 4 months since then, and I thought I would send you an update as to how she is doing.
Vanessa was renamed Java and is doing great! She is now 6 months old and weighs 45lbs already...we think she will be a big girl when done growing! She is such a joy to have around the house – her temperament is just super – she is great with all animals, kids and other adults. She's now in her second week of dog obedience and is quickly learning how to heel and come when called. She already knows how to sit, lie down, and stay. Java comes with us just about everywhere. We live in Midland which is a very dog friendly community. She's known by name at the beer store, bank and many other shops around town. She's making tons of friends at the local dog park (we go a couple of times a week) and loves the walks at the different parks and wooded areas around town. We just want to thank you again for allowing us to give Java a home. She is such a delight to have around and we're looking forward to the years ahead with her too. The Burlington Humane Society does great work and Java is a wonderful example of the animals that come from there. I've enclosed a few shots taken over the past few months of her. Thank you again... Renee Brussaard and John Steel. Midland ON |
Gilly
We wanted to share this picture of Gilly who we adopted on April 24th. She is a very friendly little girl who loves nothing better than cuddling on one of her two moms. Gilly has voices for everything - whether it is jumping up on something or jumping down, stealing a toy from one of her older sisters or just saying hello when she comes into a room. She has made friends with her two sisters, Lara and Charlie (formerly known as P'Nut and adopted from the BHS 3 years ago) and they now run around the house playing with each other.

Scrapper (nee Jetta)
Hello to everyone at the BHS. I just wanted to share some pictures of our newly adopted kitten who we have had since May 8th. "Jetta" came to us full of vigor and life. We have since renamed him "Scrapper" after your very own mascot cat you have there. Scrapper took no time at all settling into his new home although he was greeted with some hostility from our existing slightly older female cat Ella. They quickly have become good playmates though and are often chasing each other wrestling around on the ground. I have attached some pictures of him in his new abode which I think he is finding to his liking.
Thanks to you all for all the work that you do there. Craig. |
Maggie Beans (nee Laverne)
Recently, Maggie Beans' owners dropped by the shelter to share some lovely pictures of her with us. We requested an email so that we could share them with everyone and as you can see, she's just a beautiful as ever.
Thanks for sharing Peter and Shayne!

Kosmo (nee Sinbad)
We recently adopted Kosmo from Burlington Humane. It didn't take him long to get comfortable in his new home. During the day he likes to sit in the big front window and look out on to all of the action. He is calm during the day but then has "kitty fits" at night where he runs around the house! Every day he makes us laugh. Kosmo likes to sleep upside down with his paws up in the air. He is a very social cat and follows us everywhere we go. Kosmo is a great family addition and companion that will bring us love and laughs for many years to come. He is also panning out to be quite the model as well. I have attached one of his modeling shots;) Thanks BHS! Nicole |
Gracey
Gracey Here!
I'm loving my new home with my new Mommy & Daddy! The first week took some adjusting from the shelter. Soundly I had lots of space to run around. I got a little confident on my first night and fell off the Stair Banister. It scared me lots but I was ok. Now I don't go near that! It's too scary! My favorite place to rest is on the lazy boy with my mommy but I don't really like to sleep to much cause life is just too exciting and there are too many things for me to play with. I would like to take a second and thank the staff at the Burlington Human Society & the lovely group of lady joggers who found me pregnant in a culvert with my other kitty friend for saving my life & the life of my kittens! Meow Thank you!! Love Gracey |

Romeo (nee Kenny)
We adopted a little 3 month old kitten named Kenny almost two weeks ago. We have since changed his name to Romeo, it's a better fit for him. We needed to give our 9 year old cat, Gandalf, a friend to play with since losing his two furry friends this summer. We had to say goodbye to our very old cats Poopy and Thor earlier this year. Romeo looks very much like our kitty Thor, same colouring same furry ears, very similar. Little Romeo won us over and we had to have him. Upon returning home we looked through his vet papers and to our astonishment, Romeo was born the day Thor died. Coincidence? Perhaps, but weird just the same. I have to say he has fit in perfectly. Gandalf and Romeo became fast friends and are always together. Romeo follows his big brother around always, it is very cute. Gandalf is visibly happier. We are very happy to have the newest member of the family. Thanks to the Burlington Humane Society for all that you do. We have attached some pictures of the kitties together. We hope some of the ladies that were there the day we adopted Romeo will see these. Paulina & Darren |
Sadie (nee Ginny)
Hi Everyone! |
Millie
We adopted Millie over a week ago. My, she is a smart, obliging, puppy. Millie has learned the word sit, and is very gentle when using her baby teeth. We are having such fun with her! Her personality is perfectly suited to us, she's full of mischief and shows us much love. Here is a photo of her enjoying "working" with us in the yard.

Sophia
Jennifer and I had the pleasure of meeting most of you about 3 months ago when we came in looking for a dog. We were greeted by a warm and friendly girl named Sophia. Sophia is a 1 year old German Sheppard cross and is an absolute angel. She is the love of our lives and has brought so much joy and love to us that we wanted to share with everyone. From the moment that we met Sophia in your building she was nothing but gentle, affectionate and warm towards both of us. The best decision that we made was to come back the next day after meeting her and take her home with us forever. Sophia is the sweetest, most caring dog that I have ever been around. She loves her new home and her family very much and shows us each and everyday how much she loves being with us. From the moment that we brought her home, she made herself comfortable in our home and is a very good girl. She has learned to sit, come, and is an excellent fetcher. She has still not had one accident in our house even from the first day! Sophia is a very friendly and outgoing dog. She loves people and really enjoys being around as many of them as possible. She greets Jennifer and I each day when we come home from work with hugs and kisses and loves nothing more than going out for walks with us and playing with her favourite thing in the world, next to us….her tennis balls. Sophia will bring her tennis ball everywhere that she goes and will carry it with her the entire walk to make sure that we always have one to play with. We take Sophia on hikes every weekend and because she is so friendly and such a joy to be around, she gets out for walks on average about 5 times a day. She loves running through the forest and playing with all of the other animals we come across in the forest. She has a great personality and is amazingly smart. She learns things very quickly and she watches Jennifer and I do something, like open a top on a bottle or jar and she will try to copy us and do the same. We have to be careful what we show her as she is such a quick learner. We have a nice balcony that she considers one of her favourite places as she can sit up high and just watch over the world around her. She is a fantastic companion and truly an amazing member of our family. We love Sophia with all of our heart and it is very easy to see just by watching her that she in turn feels the same way. Thank you very much for helping to bring Sophia into our lives and you guys do such an amazing job with these animals. We look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event in the near future. Keep up the amazing work! Jason and Jennifer |
Ficus (nee Stacey)
I took home Ficus nee Stacey on March 11, 2010. She seemed a little shy at first, that lasted until dinner time. The way to this little kitties heart is food. Ficus has become such a special part of our family. On any give day she can be found playing with a shoelace, sitting by the window or laying anywhere there is sun. Ficus plays tag with me once in a while and waits for the 'ok' to eat her food daily. If I didn't know better, I would say she is part dog. Cat or dog, Ficus is who I wake up to every morning right before my alarm goes off, and who is now our lovable furry family member. Thank you to everyone at the Burlington Humane Society for taking care of Ficus until she found our home.

Tobi
Our story...
TOBI
On a whim 14 years ago we stopped at the former Animal Aide to simply ask questions and see what the process was for adopting a small dog. One Post - a male, last of the litter, a real odd ball being the only black / white of an all brown litter . The Staff insisted we go see him at his host family. We know he was the one. At 10 weeks, he was calm, gentle, curious; we were advised he would be no more than 50lbs (as his mother was small - BUT the father(s) were not known) - so some 90 lbs later - he finally grew into his ears and into one incredible dog. His looks would always get him comments as everyone tried to guess his breed(s). Being a mix between with a Shepherd + Border collie + ?. All in all, he was one of a kind! Originally named "Apollo", then "Freckles" (would be curious if any original AA Staff remember him?) he settled in with "Tobi" once home.
Tobi is no longer with us - but he is missed with hopes to fill his spot with another BHS adoption in the near future. Keep up the good work BHS! |
Dexter
Hi,
I would like everyone to know that I am very happy in my new home and that I am very much loved by my family. I have a "doggy" sister who I have a lot of fun and games with. My favourite game is playing chase, but my sister is a lot faster than me. When I get a bit bigger that will all change!!
I am not allowed out yet for a few weeks but I am looking forward to going out in the big wide world and explore. I am a very friendly chap and have already made a couple of friends and looking forward to making more.
I would like to say thank you to the BHS for looking after me for the short time I was there.
Lots of Wags and Woofs.

Tiberius (nee Gollum)
Tiberius is getting along great in our family. He is newly adopted and is still adjusting to his new home especially the evil ceiling fan! He loves playing with strings (his extra toes help with that!) and cuddling all day long. Although he was a bit grouchy in the humane society, we have seen nothing out of the ordinary. This proves that every cat just wants a loving home and deserves to be given the chance to love you.
Sincerely, Christina and Will

Nala
Hello :)
Nala purrs hello! I just thought I would drop you a quick message to let you know that Nala is doing great and is such a sweetheart! She is getting alot of love - and me too :) Are you sure she only gets 2 handfuls of food a day? She is trying for more!? lol. The first day she was pretty quiet but enjoyed the attention - I have heard her purr but it's pretty low key for now - she came running to me when I stepped out of the shower yesterday meowing, 'talks' to me alot, gets and gives lots of kisses - she woke me up with her little "bbbbbbbbbbrrrrringgggggg!" meow this morning wanting her breakfast! She usually isn't too far away from me, and I've spent alot of time with her on the couch with my arm around her. She is so laid back, loves to be petted - she tryly is like a dog lol. When I pass her where she is laying, I give her a hug and a kiss which is always met with a "brrrrrrrrr!" - so cute. She tryly is a sweetheart - I feel so lucky I got her. She is unlike any cat I've had - totally different temperment. As I was told while at the shelter, she might be what is considered hypo-allergenic - so I looked it up on the net - I honestly believe she is a Siberian Cat breed - she meets all the criteria (as thought). Thank you once again for taking such good care of her and for loving her so much - you are all wonderful and appreciated. Nancy

Sabrina
Hi There,
I just wanted to send along a photo of Sabrina. We adopted Sabrina in June 2009. It didn't take her long to adjust to our family! She is a wonderful, affectionate, fun, and noisy cat!!! Our previous cat Casey who was apart of the family for many years was also a great family pet, and very vocal. He passed away in April and we all missed him very much. Sabrina has been such a lovely addition to our family and we are so thankful that we found her. Thank you very much for the care and services that you provide to these animals!! Sincerely, Wendy I've attached a picture at Christmas. Our two boys enjoyed snapping this photo of her in the Christmas spirit!! |
Ms. Tilly Mint (nee Cynthia)
ur Ms. Tilly Mint, was 'Cynthia' has settled in and is a proper little princess. The first picture you see is how forlorn she looked in the shelter, even though she was loved and got lots of attentioin. She makes me and my husband Gordon, laugh all the time the antics that she gets up too especially the little feet that appear under closed doors. We thank you so much for rescuing Ms. Tilly Mint, and for all the wonderful work you do, rescuing all the other animals.
Cudo's to you all, volunteers and staff, and ALWAYS, remember what goes around comes around x 3, so you are all due for a massive amount of positivity in your lives, for all the happiness you have helped the animals and us humans find :) Yours respectfully, Laraine A. Goodban |
Grrly (nee Boo)
Thank you Burlington Humane!
It has been almost 7 months since we adopted Grrly (formerly Boo) from Burlington Humane! Our first adopted dog, Buddy was 14 when she passed and how do we miss her! Since Buddy passed and Grrly has come into our home she has given so much love to our family. She is so calm and such a good girl in the house! We took her to McCanns for training and she passed no problem! Who ever let Grrly go, has no idea of what a fantastic and loving friend that they lost. I cannot say enough about our Grrly! Thank you so much Burlington Humane for letting us adopt such an amazing Girl! Kara and Grrly Vanderkooy!

Taz (nee Charles)
We adopted Charles (who is now Taz) on December 19th, 2009. Taz has been a great addition to our new home. He has so much personality. He's fun, playful, smart and loves everyone he meets! He is very affectionate and loves to go on adventures on our walks. When we first got him he was just 22 pounds now he has reached 60 pounds at 5-6 months! We could not be happier with our new pup, and we are so grateful to have found Taz at the Burlington Humane Society.
Thank-you! |
Minnie Mouse (nee Sophie)
We adopted Minnie Mouse early December 2009. She has been quite the addition to the family. Not only does she make us laugh with her "chirp-like" meows, constant purring, wide eyes and hungry appetite, she has been a great playmate for our 2 year old cat, Bailey. They wrestle in the mornings and at night, and we've even caught them sleeping on couches and beds together! Minnie, like Bailey, is very talkative. She tells us stories, requests a lot of attention (she is very snuggly) and loves nothing more than to curl up on someone's lap on the couch.
Here is a picture of Minnie Mouse hard at work (when my Dad was working from home) and a picture of Minnie Mouse with Bailey on the couch. Thank you Burlington Humane Society! We love our Minnie Mouse dearly...Bailey does too! The Lane Family |
Abby (nee Beautee)
We adopted Abby in November 2009 following the loss of our beautiful six-month old Siberian, Sasha, to FIP. I was desperate to have another affectionate cat or kitten to love and Abby was just what I needed. It seemed Abby chose me that first day at the BHS when she ran to meet me with head butts and kisses. I was immediately enamoured. In addition, she had the most beautiful, thick, black coat - except for her back haunches that were almost bare from suspected fur-mowing. Once home we realized that Abby was indeed mowing from nerves, she would constantly pace and chew her back heel until it bled. For the first two months Abby lived with me in the master bedroom, apart from our five-month old Maine Coon, Tabitha. Having her own safe space and being showered with attention she gradually started to calm down. In January we introduced her and Tabitha, and though it took a couple of weeks for Abby to warm to her, they are now best friends and playmates. My husband and I are thrilled that Abby has finally realized she is home. She is now a very laid-back, happy girl whose shiny black coat has filled in everywhere. Abby's favourite pastime is sitting at the window watching for birds, uttering the cutest little chirps of excitement when she spots one. She loves to be near us, and can't bear the loneliness of an eight-hour sleep so is immediately upon me for cuddles when I wake at night.
Thank you, BHS, for taking care of Abby and all the other cats and kittens who need your help.

Pepper (nee Marcus)
It has been over a year since we visited you and came home with our little bundle of joy. What a delight he has been! We adopted Pepper on December 4th, 2009. At the time his name was Marcus; but Pepper suits him better, we think, as he is a beautiful medium-haired tabby, his luxurious coat showing many colours of pepper. As I write this letter, Pepper is asleep on our bed, and so is unavailable for comment.
Thank you, Carole |
Abby (nee Loretta) and Miles (nee Milo)
This is a long overdue update on Abby (formerly Loretta) and Miles (formerly Milo). We adopted these two in December 2008 and as you can see from the pictures, they are living the good life along with their sister Lucy. All 3 love to cuddle, shred every roll of toilet paper in the house and watch the squirrels and chipmunks who come up to our back door. Abby has learned to yawn on command and is now a Youtube celebrity!
Thanks BHS! Sandra & Darren |
Jonesy (nee Scotia)
Hello! I just wanted to give you an update on our new kitty, Jonesy (formerly Scotia). Jonesy had been slow to eat and head seemed very depressed, but when we brought him home he settled in almost right away. His first day was a little scary and he spent it under the couch, but by day two he was exploring his new home and picking out favorite nap spots. Within a couple days, his eating went back to normal and in fact, he might be eating a little too much! He loves treats, sleeping on his back with his legs int he air, and has also been spotted watching TV. He particularly enjoys Itchy and Scratchy from The Simpsons.
He's doing great, and we're very happy he has a home with us. Thank you for letting us adopt this really wonderful cat because he's just about perfect. Alicia, Mark and Jonesy

Suzie
Hello. Just wanted to let you know that Suzie (who we adopted about a month ago) has fit into the family with no problems. She races around the house all the time and then lays on our bed. She was the one who wanted to meet everybody after about 3 days (the previous shortest was about 2 weeks). I bought her a scratch pad and of course all the cats love it but Suzie was a little possessive the first couple days so I made a scratch post as well and now they all share.
I just wanted to say thanks again. Doug Mallory (and Susan my wife) |
Bongo
To the gang at BHS....We were fortunate enough to adopt BONGO from your wonderful establishment and let me tell you what a joy he has been. He is full of character and very loving and is very well behaved around his new older brother. We have a floor to ceiling cat pole he loves and we keep him surrounded by toys and beds. My wife and I are very impressed with the facility there and pleased to know the cats are very well taken care of.
Thanks for everything you do there and a huge thank-you for our wonderful new kitty, we absolutely love him!! Chris & Nancy |
Juno (nee June)
Hi BHS - I just wanted you to know that, since leaving you on April 17th, I have settled into my new home very well.
My new big sister, Isis has stopped hissing at me and we race each other after the little balls our mama kicks across the room. I am very diligent in trying to get outside but so far have only made it once but I didn't get very far because it was raining and my mom picked me up and put me back inside. Guess the window perch will have to do. "Juno"

Misty
Hi BHS. Just thought we would send an update on Misty. She was the friendly girl who would sit and watch everyone through the glass in the front room. We adopted Misty right before Christmas and by January she was all settled in. She is still quite skiddish, not a fan of loud noise and very quiet but she sure loves to eat, get brushed and bask in the sunlight. Although not a huge cuddle, she loves to be around us, Just ever so slightly out of reach. She is a wonderful cat and we wouldn't trade her for the world.

Sheba
After a time of staying near my room where her fortress and food lies, Sheba has now braved the entire house and has fallen for our two older border collies. She truly seems to feel at home when she cuddles up to everyone, naps on a chair next to her doggy friends, and keeps her exercise routine a top priority. Daily she ever so politely asks me to join her in play. She loves to chase a super long shoelace that I whip around, as well as catching any intruding flies. I feel her love when she covers my head with kisses (including my hair) and snuggles with me to sleep when she could rather sleep in her ultra cool fort. I love her dearly and am so happy she has realized that Sheba now has a family who loves her for life. Now Sheba can enjoy a full life and be blessed.

Jonah Whiskers
Hello everyone! We are delighted with our new addition, who seemed one of the family immediately. Jonah is so loving, and we adore him! Thanks for everything! Christine |
Libby & Gordon
Hi BHS, After having Libby for a week it is like she has been with our family forever. My husband and I were a bit worried about how the introduction would go between Libby and our other cat, Gordon (who we adopted from you in December). After keeping them separate for half an hour, I went to check on Libby, and of course our curious Gordon trotted along. When I opened the door slightly Gordon seemed eager to greet Libby and Libby just wanted out of the room to explore her new home. Both cats smelled each other and kept looking a me to let them fully say hi. With the small introduction going so well, my husband and I decided to skip the slow interaction and just see how they interacted. Well, we couldn't believe our eyes! It appeared that Gordon was giving Libby a tour of the apartment! There was no hissing, no running and hiding, and when Libby did go under the bed Gordon stayed right near her (though I think he was trying to start a game of batting the bed skirt back and forth). Within 2 hours, Libby and Gordon were curled up on our bed sound asleep, looking as though we have had them for years. Since then, they have become partners in crime; running through our apartment chasing each other, playing with all of the toys, and trying to catch whatever bugs may get in. Libby is the perfect fit for our family. We absolutely adore her and are so happy that Gordon approves too! Thank you for all of your help finding both of our cats. Alexandra & Terry |
QTip and Tatie
Our story starts when Poppa John and Nana Dianne Scott came into see us in Burlington Humane rescue on March 1, 2009. They had just lost their 8 year old Border Collie named Guinness to diabetes and they were at a loss since they had a pack of huskies for over 20 years and felt incomplete without their family of dogs.
Well we will be at the Pooch Promenade again this year, so we hope to see you there.

Hobbes
Hi there,
It has been six months since Hobbes joined our family and it has been nothing but a great joy having him around. From the first day he arrived in our home, he has spent his time playing with anything he can get his paws on and venturing off into new places. His name is inspired by our favorite tiger, the lovable Hobbes from the comic Calvin and Hobbes. If he's not playing, he's conversing with the birds outside or with us to let him outside to play with the birds. If there's anything he likes more, it's his food. Being the smart cat that he is, he constantly manages to find where his food and treats are and tries to get into the cupboards to eat more(even when he's just finished eating from his bowl!!). Hobbes is always keeping us entertained in whatever he does, and we love watching and playing along with him. We hope you enjoy this picture of him in his favorite place. Thank you to the team at the Burlington Humane Society for all of your help, we couldn't be happier with our decision and we're sure Hobbes is having a pretty good time himself. |
Pixie (nee Cher)
Hello!! We thought we would write you a short note to let you know how Pixie is doing. First of all "Thank You" so much for having a picture of Pixie on line that day so that when we came across it our hearts were filled with love and we rushed to Burlington in hopes of bringing Pixie home with us. As you can see from Pixie's famous smile LOL (her severe overbite/smile has won her many friends) she is very happy!!! We had a lot of concerns about Pixie and our pug Chelsea (who is not so great at accepting other dogs) but to our surprise the two of them have become best friends!!! I credit this to Pixie and her charming and gentle personality and of course the wonderful baths she is always giving Chelsea. Pixie also loves the back yard and is constantly racing and jumping around with Chelsea and then in she comes for one of her famous long naps. Pixie is an absolute angel and has adjusted so well into our family and our animal family that we could not even imagine being without her now "Thank You" once again for our new wonderful family member.

Mocha Bean
Mocha Bean is the greatest cat ever (shh, don't tell our other two). She is super sweet, affectionate and loving. Loves to sleep on my head during our mutual naps. She felt immediately at home the day we adopted her and it's the best decision we've ever made. We couldn't have asked for a better cat.
Thank you so much Burlington Humane society! Katelyn

Storm (nee Gilles) & Hunter (nee Buttercream)
We adopted Storm (nee Gilles, grey and white) two years ago, and Hunter (nee Buttercream, buff) a year and a half ago. We would like to report that they are great. Storm is a silly and loving soul. Hunter took time to get used to all the affection that we give him, and his brother, but he has turned out to be a sweet boy. They are very spoiled and think that's the way it's supposed to be. They are beautiful boy's.

Lila and Booda (nee Ivy and Snow)
Ivy and Snow (Lila and Booda), are wonderful cats!! They have adjusted to our forever home beautifully and we all can't be more pleased. Our kids are so happy that they are both very playful and lots of fun. They love to sleep on my daughters bed and go flying through the house chasing each other. We are so happy that they were adopted together they love grooming each other and are often not apart. You will be happy to hear that both kitties are losing weight and their coats are nice and shiny. Thanks Burlington Humane!

Vanessa and Serina
Hey guys, here as promised is the update on Vanessa and Serena. These beautiful ladies are definitely princesses with a mind of their own! They were initially quite nervous and hid in the smallest, darkest corners they could find. Eventually we coaxed them out and they submitted to being held and stroked, although they were still unsure. It was Serena who decided that this new house needed to be explored, as well as these strange tall creatures that seemed to be the providers of food and cuddles. She checked out every nook and cranny, then started to call her sister. Vanessa came out and followed her, but they were still skittish and nervous, bolting for cover every time there was a noise or sudden movement. It was almost as though the house was too big and overwhelming.
Paul had the idea of closing the doors to the lounge and sitting in there with the cats. This seemed to work wonders, and before we knew it we were being showered with affection. Nuzzles and headbutts from two identical purring kitties was quite an experience! They are still prone to hiding under the bed, but in general they have definitely settled down and I think they’ve accepted their new home. They certainly had no problem taking over the couch! It’s also fun to shred toilet paper. They are obviously devoted to each other and inseparable, and we’re so glad we took them home. Thank you! Paul and Anne, and Vanessa and Serena, “The Girls”.

Carlos
Hi we adopted Carlos (nee Lester.) He is VERY loveable and sweet he even has staked out his own special part of our couch. We have already discovered he loves to catch mice and eat them - well except for the guts!! We love him for that because we had mice in our pantry - not any more! He loves to be petted and he is just a big softy. He loves to look out the window and imagine that he's catching those squirrels! He also loves to chase laser pointers and dangling string. He is a great big overgrown kitten who is gentle as can be with my little brother who is the one who renamed him Carlos for the talking cat from Marmaduke. My brother still thinks maybe Carlos can learn to talk too! The picture is of Carlos and my little brother Christopher. I don't think so, but he is a happy loving part of our family and we're glad he's come to stay.

Reggie
Hello, We adopted Reggie about a month ago and things are going great. My 7yr old son got to pick the name and he decided to keep the name Reggie because “that’s his name, we can’t change his name now, plus he looks like a Reggie” !! He was a small guy when we got him home but things have changed he is getting to be a big strong boy but still a bit un-coordinated. He was only timid for the first 5 minutes in the house then made himself right at home. He has adjusted well to his new home and new older dog brother Brutus ( Boston Bull Terrier). The spend hours playing and chasing each other around and then collapse together for a rest before starting again. Reggie loves the outdoors and we practically have to drag him in some days, but hates to get his feet wet! Thank you so much for taking him in and taking care of him so that we could find him and make him part of our family. The Kramer’s |
Cleo (nee Sandy)
Dear Volunteers, I want to thank you for bringing Cleo (Sandy) into our lives. My daughter Janet volunteers at the Humane Society and during your open house last Fall, she encouraged me to come down and see your facilities. I was thrilled to see how well the animals were cared for. Clean and loved, what a fabulous facility you have. We had no intention on adopting a cat at the time but while I was touring the facility, this beautiful cat saw me through the window in the door and tilted her head to one side and followed me as I walked pass her door. I leaned back and this beautiful cat was saying, “pick me, pick me”. I continued out to the patio where my daughter was busy with the other volunteers. I quickly informed her that a cat had just stole my heart. This was a bit of a surprise to her as we’ve always had a dog. I returned again to the room where Cleo was and played with her through her kennel. I asked a volunteer if we could take her out of her kennel and this volunteer was excellent. She placed Cleo on the floor where we could interact together. The volunteer took the time to informed me about Cleo and answered all my questions. When my daughter finished volunteering, we spent time with Cleo. We fell in love with her and the next day, we took our dog Jet in to the Humane Society to see if she would be o.k. with Cleo. All was well and we brought Cleo home. She has been the best thing that has happened to us. She has personality like we’ve never seen in an animal before. She is so playful, loving and makes us laugh so much. She is the sweetest and we are so thankful to the Humane Society for being there for Cleo and caring so well for her until it was time for us to meet her and bring her into our lives. She is just beautiful! Our daughter built a cat house for Cleo as a Christmas gift. Cleo is very spoiled but deserves it! She has her place for naps and sleeps in our daughters room along with our dog Jet at night. We love Cleo with all our hearts and she has a warm, loving forever home and we could not imagine our lives without her. Thank you Burlington Humane Society. Brenda

Lou Lou
Here is an update on Lou Lou, now called Roxy. She is the sweetest cat I've ever met, so cuddly and friendly. The kids love her and are very gentle with her, even though she puts up with a lot of attention and doesn't seem to tire of it. Thanks so much for all the help in finding her. Love from The Richardson's. |
Bucky
Hi
We just adopted Bucky (renamed him Dexter) 4 days ago. In February, we lost our 18.5 year old tabby and have had a very hard time with it. We just recently decided to start "looking" again, and met Bucky on Friday. We knew we had to take him home IMMEDIATELY. He has settled in so well, he is so amazingly sweet and good natured, I cannot believe how lucky we are. He is so healthy and playful and an absolute joy. The picture was taken the second day that he was here! He doesn't seem to be having any trouble adapting! Thanks BHS for taking such good care of our boy :) Ada and Rick |
Charlie (nee Smarties)
Hi BHS,
Charlie is now a year old and is a very handsome boy. He is slim and quite 'leggy' - I say he's built like a race horse and he certainly runs like one! He greets everyone with a 'leg wrap' and a purr and loves to play and he still teases his sisters, of course.
Hope you like the photos.
Thanks again....Stephanie

Steve
Hi everyone - it's me Steve! I just wanted to tell you how happy I am in my new home. I really love my new Mom and Dad, and I'm considering being friends with Rufus the dog, he's a nice guy but I'm still not convinced we'll be best pals, we'll see. I have the best set up here, a bed in the master bedroom for night time, a bed in the office so I can work with my Mom (she loves that!) and a bed in the family room so I can watch TV and eat chips with my Dad. I can go almost anywhere I like, except Mom's computer keyboard, counters and the kitchen table. I'm not sure what the big deal is - computer keys feel so good on my feet and the best sunshine is on the kitchen table. Every morning I jump on the table and she makes me get down. Between us, I go up there when she's gone and blame the hair on the dog! At least he's good for something. On March 17 I went on my first road trip to the cottage. The car ride was terrible (the dog doesn't like the car either so I guess we have something in common) but I love the cottage. There is a big window and a ton of birds and squirrels that come right up to the door and asked me to come out and play! Mom wouldn't let me out but I had a great time watching them run around and play in the snow. I'm looking forward to the summer when we go to the trailer every weekend. Mom says I'll get used to the car and the best sunshine comes in right on the couch - sounds purrfect! Well that's it for now. I'm going to go have a bath and lounge in the sun! Love Steve |
Charleston
Charleston came to live with us in april 2011. She had been at the shelter for over 6 months. Upon getting home, she took some time warming up to our other cat, an although they still aren't the best of friends, they tolerate each other. Charleston was shy and reserved at the shelter, but boy has she come out of her shell since coming home! She is adventurous, playful, and even mischievous at times. She has a longing for the outdoors, so we need to be careful about doors so she doesn't get out on her own, because she will! Charleston is happy in her forever home, and so is her family.

Scout(nee Chloe)
After spending weeks looking for the perfect cat to join us in our new home, we visited the Burlington Humane society and met Scout (formerly Chloe). When we took her out of her cage, we quickly saw how gentle, playful and cuddly she was. We’ve now had her at home for two weeks and the qualities that we fell in love with her for have only multiplied.
Wherever we are in the house, Scout is sure to follow; she sleeps in our bed with us each night, she spends hours chasing her toys in the basement, and she gratefully accepts kisses and snuggles any time of day! Scout is such a great addition to our family; we couldn’t be happier with her!

Vanessa and Serena
Hey guys, thought you might enjoy an update on Vanessa and Serena. We have now moved permanently to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, and the girls are having the time of their lives. We managed to wrestle them both into a pet carrier for the flight from Toronto to Sydney, that was a challenge but we managed it! When we let them out at the house, they nervously surveyed their new territory, and then proceeded to stalk the perimeter for mouse scent. After a few days we let them outside, and they were immediately in cat heaven. We did have quite a mouse problem as it is a rural property - but no more! Every day we are gifted with two, three or more mice or voles outside the patio doors. Magically our mouse problem has disappeared! No more mice in the house, and two supremely contented cats. They are used to the grounds now (we have 25 acres) and routinely roam the garden in search of prey/playthings. They have also claimed the two wingback chairs in the sunniest spot in the house.
Thanks again, Anne and Paul |
Beans (nee Jamie)
Hi there,
Back in January of 2008, we adopted Jamie, a white with black spots cat. We remember going in to your old facility and looking around and not being too sure what we were looking for. The staff member, whose name escapes me then took us to another room that we didn't know about, and showed us the 5 or 6 cats in there, and right away we were drawn to Jamie. We could see right away that he was a very gentle and playful and loving cat that seemed genuinely interested in us and everyone in the area. The staff member then made the comment "He's our favorite to, everyone here loves him and it would be sad to see him go, but we'll be sure he goes to the right place". We pretty well made the decision on the spot, we had a hard time leaving him there for the weekend, but the following Monday we came and picked him up as soon as we could. We remember the staff all saying bye to him and it was apparent that he was well liked there. As soon as we got him home, then in Oakville, he adjusted almost immediately and very quickly. Today, he of course is still with us, but now in St. Catharines and is still the same fun loving, care-free gentle character he was then, and he now goes by the nickname "Beans" because of the bean shaped black marks on his white coat. He also now has an adopted brother named "Jack" who is a dark grey silver striped part Bengal cat who we adopted at 6 weeks old. Most of the time they are great friends and will chase each other down our hallway and love playing. Jack, being a Bengal, generally decides to make his toys out of everyday items and has taught Jamie to do the same thing and we regularly find twist-ties and drinking straws around the place that they somehow found. Jamie is in great health and great spirits and loves sitting by the back window all day. We have a deck and a large Maple tree in our backyard that is frequently visited by various birds and squirrels and Jamie can't get enough of watching them and chattering at them as they come around. From day one Jamie hasn't really ever had much of a voice, the vet said it's likely from an infection he had as a kitten that scarred his vocal chords, so when he meows (or tries to) he literally is just moving his mouth with little to no sound at all, and though it seems like a sad thing, it really isn't because Jamie over time has developed his personality into having conversations with you. When you see him for the first time he talks, when you say hello he responds, when you say his nickname he'll meow, almost any interaction or talking to him he'll talk back, which is just one of his many charming traits, and just adds to his already good natured and gentle personality. When we give the cats treats we'll ask them "Are you ready?" and Jack will meow to respond and because Jamie really doesn't have a voice we've taught him to sit for his treat. Anyway, I've been meaning to write about Jamie for quite some time, but have never found the chance. I hope that someone from when we adopted him remembers him as it seemed that he was really liked and taken care of by the staff at the time, and as I mentioned before they seemed sad to let him go as he is just the most gentle and friendly and overall happy guy. PS: I have attached a photo of him, we are photographers by trade, so it was a hard choice. We have many more of him and his adopted brother if you should ever want them. Regards, Dion |
Sibi (nee Bella)
Hi BHS, Sibi is liking her new home very much. She loves to play in her tent and tunnel. Sibi is usually sitting in sunny areas of the house and watching animals outside. She is full of mischief and always makes us laugh! Sibi is getting used to her big sister Chloe, a yellow lab, and loves to sneak up behind her then scare her! :) She always has her purr on high and we like it that way. We hope her brothers and sisters got adopted.

Tic Tac,Toots(ie), Tess(ie) (nee Duchess)
Hi Everyone! I even have a new playmate! Her name is Tuppins and she lovvvvesss me!! She is always licking me and we had so much fun this morning playing together, I'm so glad she likes to play. I included some pictures of her so you can see what she looks like. She is little but she seems sooo much bigger than little ole me. She's gentle though. |
Collette
Good Afternoon BHS:
I just wanted to share some great news about Collette. Boy o' boy is she happy in her new home! When I first met her, she showed us that she does have some kitty 'tude, but I was determined to not let that discourage me! And gosh was I right! I just knew that this special soul needed to come home, especially since she has been at the shelter since Christmas Eve '10. She has made the perfect fit in our home as she has found all her new spots and loves to explore her new home. She is still a little nervous as she just came home, but she is adjusting extremely well…it shocks me how well she is adjusting. And our first night, she loved sleeping with me and kept climbing all over me and would not stop purring! I can't thank you enough for finding this special little creature and how she came to me…I am very glad with the work you have done, and I know Collette was special to many of you, so I just wanted to let you all know how great she is doing. Thank you again, Loretta and Jordie |
Delphi (nee Pickle)
Hello to everyone at the Burlington Humane! It's Lauri and Devin here, the proud parents of Pickle (who has since been renamed as Delphi). We just wanted to send a big thank you for all of your help, and to share with you that Delphi is doing wonderfully in her new home. Her first night was an easy one, she adapted to our house so quickly, we were pretty amazed! She has certainly turned out to be the lap cat we were hoping for but has all the energy of a kitten that keeps her wild and excitable. Even as i write this, she's snoozing in my lap, and she loves to sleep between mom and dad at night. Once and a while she gets up to play by herself but she seems to know not to wake us. She still loves biting the tips of our noses, which I almost hope she never grows out of! Thank you again for helping find the perfect pet for us. :)

Ellie
Ellie was adopted at 8 months. Her picture was in the Post, which brought us in to meet her. Ellie has a house mate that she plays with, fights with and then grooms. It is a love/hate relationship! Ellie is happy in her new home and part of the family.

Angus (nee Dusty)
We adopted Angus from Animal Aid back in October 2003. At that time, he was called Dusty, and was approx 5 months old. He had a brother named Coal and it was hard to choose between them, but Angus was a more social kitten. We brought him home, introduced him to our older cat Sasha, and named him Angus, as he was black, and reminded us of Black Angus cattle. Over the past (nearly) 8 years, Angus has grown into a happy healthy large cat, long haired and handsome, and very sociable. Angus likes to greet visitors and loves to be patted and have attention paid to him. If he feels I am neglecting him, he comes to me and pats me with his foot., or just meows at me. One of his favourite things to do is to climb the wooden clothes drying rack in the basement. When he was a kitten, he could just jump from the floor and negotiate the bars or thru the clothes without any problem. As he got bigger, he realised that he could only do this when there were actually clothes on the rack, or it would tip over. He now has the problem solved. When he knows I am in the basement, and there are clothes on the rack, he goes to it and meows in a particular “I want something” way. I then have to go into the laundry room, make sure I have one hand on the rack, and wait while he climbs up. This is no small feat for a 15 pound cat, and when He manages to reach the top, he is extremely pleased with himself. He stands on the top rungs, purrs loudly, and rubs my head-which is at the same height. I then tell him what a clever cat he is and lift him off carefully. He loves being in the garden when I am gardening, being on the table to help with the crossword, preferably in the middle of the paper-he just likes to be there! We would like to thank Animal Aid/Burlington Humane taking in Angus and his brother when they were strays, for socialising Angus when he was a kitten, and helping him become the wonderful cat he is today. And if you need more photos, I have HUNDREDS! Regards, Alexandra |
Bunny
Bunny has found a home! After 18 months of foster care (supposed to be 3 weeks but who's counting) Bunny has come home to roost with her forever family. She bravely tolerated a foster dog for 10 months and she is ever hopeful that her new brother is also a foster and leaving shortly (little does she know he is also adopted and has assumed the middle name of Maung which is Thai for 'little brother') Bunny has also also been given a middle name of Sakura which is Japanese for cherry blossom to commemorate her beautiful white and pink body. Bunny loves to lie in her special window bed in the sun and watch the world go by but she quickly scrambles to her dish when she hears the food bag open just to get to the dish before her brother (even though they are fed in different rooms). She is especially cute when she lies on the floor with her front paws curled in and waiting for her head scratch and ear rub and sometimes she even rubs her head against her brother Lord Finchley Maung. We are so happy to have Bunny in our family.

Sheba
Hello Humane Society. I would love to share an update on Sheba. First there is Sheba: outgoing, joyful and always giving kisses. Then came Hunter. I, gratefully, was able to rescue him from an abusive atmosphere. His spirit was crushed. Maybe some would call him difficult, but I believe he felt like he had to protect himself. Then they met. Hunter and Sheba. Sometimes miracles happen and they can change a life forever. Instantly Sheba swept Hunter off of his big orange feet. She simply saw him and approached Hunter who hung his head really low, and began to clean him. The first few days it continued; Sheba would clean Hunter and he would sit there probably in disbelief. He was loved. Sheba softened Hunter’s heart and he has been transformed. Firstly, Hunter now leaps onto everybody’s lap and curls up. Every person in my house knows to be gentle and patient with Hunter. But something happened to him that made the most difference. He fell in love with Sheba. Hunter and Sheba are always together; chasing each other, licking each other endlessly – sometimes both licking each others face at the same time- they are happy and at peace and most importantly: safe. My heart can’t express how privileged I feel to have witness Hunter’s heart become healed and witness how day after day these cats just love each other, and gratefully they also love me. Both of my ‘babies’ share their love with me every day. Thank you again Humane Society for making it possible to love and heal animals. Thank you. Sincerely Elizabeth |
Lulu (nee Noodles)
My name is LuLu and I am a seal lynx point Siamese. My mom and grandmother were shopping in Burlington one day and decided to stop by the Burlington Humane Society and have a look around at the animals. My mom had been there before and told me she hadn¹t made a connection with any of the previous tenants until she met me. People say I'm affectionate, loyal, outgoing and the star of the show. Being an only cat child I get spoiled and already have many toys and have had many visitors come by and welcome me to the family. I love to soak up the sun in the window, eat all the food my little belly can handle and follow my mom around aimlessly until its bedtime and I'm too exhausted to play anymore. I have already gained weight since leaving the shelter (now clocking in at 7 lbs) and have had another car ride to the vet to get a booster shot and my first check up. The vet said 'I'm beautiful' but I won't let it go to my head, besides my mom says I'm too young to date. I found out I have a cat brother Stuart Little, a mom Sarah and dad Cody and two loving grandparents Debbie and Terry who think the world of me. My family would encourage anyone looking to bring an animal into their home to come by the Burlington Humane Society/Animal Aid and visit my friends. My mom says 'what's not to love' even when my curious nature gets the best of me and I find myself attempting to try on her shoes in the big walk in closet.
Much love, Miss LuLu and mom Sarah |
Titus aka Tubby (nee Eskobar)
My wife and I had the pleasure of adopting Titus in the first half of June 2011. The moment we saw his and his litter mates little faces on the BHS website we drove all the way from London and adopted him. At the time it was a very hard decision picking between Titus (nee Eskobar) Aspen, and Glacier; but in the end Titus picked us and we couldn't be happier. Titus settled right into his new home, with his new bed and all his new toys. Titus is now 16 weeks (as of 07/29/11) and is 35lbs and has tons of puppy friends that he plays with and he even has a Malamute girlfriend named Luna. He has started puppy classes and is doing very well and hes very popular with all the ladies so we call him our "little rockstar". Titus is the sweetest, happiest, most outgoing puppy we have ever met. He greets us with bright eyes, a big smile and a waggly tail and wants to play with everyone and everything and and is just so happy to be alive.
The most intriguing thing about Titus and his litter mates was their breed. He was listed as a Husky Cross but everyone would always say "crossed with what? he's beautiful" Everyone had their guess, we heard things like Malamute, Akita, Great Pyrenees, Collie, German Sheppard, and many other things. I had a DNA test performed and my wife and I are pleased to inform the BHS that Titus is Level 1 Siberian Husky (75% or more) Level 4 Chow Chow (10-20%) and Level 4 Labrador Retriever (10-20%). We are very much in love with Titus as he has made a more than perfect addition to our lives. Thank you BHS for giving us our dream dog/furry baby. Love Shawn, Becky, and Titus

Daphne
I wanted to thank all of you at the Burlington Humane for being so kind and helpful on August 12 , 2011 when I adopted my new and very special friend Daphne. After spending the first week under my bed she finally came out and realized that there was a wonderful and exciting world to discover all through my house.
She has settled in well now and is a delightfully warm and loving cat....always ready to snuggle up to me whenever I sit down. Morning and evenings she loves to wind herself up and will begin a wild ride of burning through the house careening around corners, skidding into furniture, bouncing up stairs, and peeking around corners. Then Daphne will happily cozy down for one of her long snoozes. Her favourite toys that she loves to bat around and then carry off to hide are three furry mice and a wide yellow satin ribbon....I think she thinks that the ribbon definitely reflects her beauty!! She has made my home a very special place and I feel very lucky to have found her!!! Thanks again to all of you for your wonderful work ..... Joan |
Tanner (nee Cooper)
Hi to all my friends at the Burlington Humane Society who helped to take care of Tanner (formerly Cooper)! The recipe for the name change from Cooper to Tanner is as follows: 1 part sentimental & 1 part "because he's Tanner than he is black". Mix equally for the perfect name. (No Baking Required or Recommended)
Tanner has been such a great addition to the family. I'm very fortunate to have met him when I did and it only took a fraction of a second to know he was coming home with me. He is wonderfully behaved and smarter than he even knows. He's a typical puppy and funny as can be as he figures out his new life here. You have all been great and I will be back with Tanner on occasion just so Tanner and I can say hello! Thanks much, Steve & Tanner |
Gambit (nee Newton)
Hello Burlington Humane!
Anthony and I adopted Gambit just before Christmas 2010 as a wonderful Christmas gift from Anthony's parents. Needless to say, we couldn't be happier! He's just as friendly now as he was when we first met him at the shelter. He has been a wonderful first cat for us both! He provides a lot of love daily and loves getting attention from us and anyone that comes to visit. Gambit always makes people feel very welcome and loves meeting new people. He's very playful and always finds a way to make us laugh when we're down. His social nature and constant positive attitude keep us smiling in the worst of times. He never fails to make us feel welcome at home. I enjoy getting a cuddle from him when I wake up in the morning, when he knows I'm feeling down and when I come home. We have fostered my cousin's cat Theo (also male) for this summer and Gambit has been very welcoming to him and loves the companionship. This makes us very confident that we will be able to adopt another cat in September. We feel that having a companion cat for Gambit would be best and love having two cats in the house ourselves. We have nothing but pride and love for our beautiful cat! Thank you to everyone there for taking care of and providing this loving member of our little family; we wouldn't be complete without him! Looking forward to adopting again! Kaylee and Anthony

Rizzo (nee Patches) & Sniffy
When I first saw "Patches", she was in her kennel shivering with fear. That lasted as long as it took for me to put her leash on. Once out walking, she was a different dog. Her new dog-brother took to her immediately and within minutes of arriving home he was chasing her around the house. Now they spend their days either napping on the bed, playing tug-of-war with whatever half-morsel of leftover toy they find or having a "Who can chew the others ears the most" competition. A dog's life indeed!
Thank you for bringing Rizzo into our family! |
Ace
Hello everyone It’s been 4 months since my new humans took me home. I have settled in very well. They did not know what they were in for as I had only been at the shelter for about a week and the staff hadn’t learned much about my personality yet. I love to climb and explore. I enjoy a good cuddle. I am very vocal and tell my humans lots of stories about what happened while they were out. My favorite place to be is sitting in the large bay window watching the birds in the trees. The vet says I am going to be a big boy because I have tripled in size since leaving the shelter. Ace |
Lula (nee Heidi)
Hi there!
Here is some news on Heidi now known as Lula!! We're having a great time with her, she's almost clean but we have to be really quick or else... My boys love her and I can already see that one has a closer bond with her. She knows that she shouldn't go close to the baby and doesn't. We have lots of kids in the house sometimes and she knows (most of the time) to stay calm or on her blanket. We're looking forward to all the fun we'll have together as a family! We will keep you updated. Thanks a million!! Elaine

Bailee (nee Cloud)
Thanks to the BHS for giving us a wonderful new puppy. She is a joy to have around. The kids just love her and she loves all the attention. She is very smart and is already going to the back door. She loves the backyard and plays out there for hours. Another couple of weeks and we will be able to take her for walks.

Cash (nee Cole)
Hi, I just thought I would give you an update on Cash (his name was Cole at the Burlington Humane). He was one of a litter of three Newfoundland crosses (Cash, Cole and Lucy). I adopted him in May of this year at 8 weeks old. He has brought so much joy into our lives! There is never a dull moment! He loves to go for long walks and hikes on the weekends. He is full of energy and can be the biggest suck. I take him everywhere! He has travelled with me to British Columbia for vacation and has been, camping, kayaking and hiking! He loves going to the beach and swimming! He graduated from puppy kindergarden (see attached photo) and is now taking intermediate lessons. At seven and a half months old now he weighs 68 pounds and still growing! He loves sleeping with us on our bed which has us considering upgrading to a king size! J He poses great for pictures . J I’ve attached a couple photos of him. Thank you Burlington Humane Society! Sincerely, Csilla |
Flip
I picked Flip up on October 30th. It took no time at all for Flip to make himself at home. He walked out of the crate and immediately checked out every room in the house. Later, when I was on my computer, Flip decided to stretch himself out on my desk and fall asleep. His head perked up when he heard the door to the house open and he quickly went downstairs to great my son. He's full of affection and spent his first night curled up at the bottom of my bed. I now know why all the girls at the pet store where making such a fuss about him!

Howard
We were worried about how well he would get along with our 10 month old Simba. Well, we had absolutely nothing to worry about. They are the best of friends after only two days. :o) Still not sure if we will continue to call him Howard or change his name? Thank you again for helping us to find the perfect addition to our family. :o) |
Bailey
I got Bailey when she was just 8 weeks old, she was big for so young, about the size of a football. Bailey was one of 13 new puppies born at the humane society. When I went she was the last one, she was just small and black, her paws were the size of her head. I took her home that day. She couldn’t climb the stairs, couldn’t walk on the ceramic kitchen floor, she would wait for my other dogs, 3 Chihuahuas, to come down and play, it wasn’t long, literally over a month, she was at the height of my knee, skipping steps and literally hopping when she got excited, she is a blessing to me, she learned to pee outside so quickly, and learned the shoes were not for her. As I moved away to college, I was expecting it to be difficult, coming home and her around new people, I was wrong, she loves my new house, and when people come over, she wants to play. She walks by my side every day, she sleeps at my feet and ONLY growls or barks when someone walks past my bedroom door to the bathroom. Bailey has taught me just as much as I have taught her, I am responsible, I feed her every day, I walk her in the cold, snow and wet. She has made my life fun. She still hasn’t figured out that her tail is part of her body...she will, I hope. Erik |
Scrapper
Well I have had Scrapper home for 2 days now and he is definitely a character!
He walks around the house like he is the King of the Castle, strutting his stuff…but really; despite what he wants you to believe…he is a big old softy. I think he would let me pet him for hours if I could. He’s sleeping on the bed each night, watching the going on’s through the windows throughout the day and has stated to play hide and seek with me…even initiating the game. I am truly blessed to have this handsome cat in my life. Thank you so much for allowing him to come home with me to his FOREVER home! Without a doubt, he will be dearly loved and spoiled each and every day for the rest of his cat life. Roxanne

Shadow (nee Waylon)
Well you might not recognize me now from the little grey and black kitten who left you not long ago, I am now a big almost all black fluffy boy! I still love my new home and my new pal Charlie. We bring hours of entertainment to our owners Sean Oriol and Evan playing like two puppies and sleeping together like two little kittens. My Vet says I am super healthy and I am off special food and on a regular healthy diet now growing in leaps and bounds. I love to bath Charlie and my owner Sean too every night before bed time. Thank you for helping me find such a great home. Enjoy the photo of me when I came home and now and the video of me and Charlie!

Scarlett
Hi friends!
I just wanted to email you all to let you know how my first day at my new home went! My new mommy bought me a lovely bed since you told her how much I liked my old one at the Inn. I don't quite fit in it just yet, but I am sure with the help of my diet food I will slim down in no time - I also have lots of new toys to chase around for exercise! Mommy was a bit concerned that she made a poor choice in selecting a cat nip toy - she thinks it may make me lazy and not as active as I should be for slimming down, what do you think? I also love mommy's plants, she has allowed me to play with them thus far and has assured me she will take better care of me then the plants. In fact she has already watered me today and bought me a nifty water dish that refills itself - she should also maybe do this for her plants. I get a little scared when there are people in the outside hallway slamming doors or going up and down the stairs but mommy lures me out from behind the couch in no time. It's my new favourite hiding spot - I hid there when my new mommy left me alone to return my cat carrier and buy me bum wipes. I quite enjoy having my bum wiped it turns out! Well I miss you all already, but we will keep in touch! Thank you so much for looking after me until my new mommy came along. Xo. All my love, Scarlett |
Finchley Maung (nee Neville) & Bunny Sakura(nee Bunny)
Hello, old friends! You might remember me as Neville, but my new name is Finchley Maung, a name with a story. Finchley is after a neighbourhood in London where my new mom, Sheila, used to live, and Maung means “little brother” in Burmese. Why Burmese? We think that’s the kind of cat I am (or maybe a Siamese – being a rescued stray means I’ll always have a touch of mystery). Why “little brother”? Because of my foster sister, Bunny Sakura! That’s her sitting behind me – isn’t she pretty? She was here first and we’re still learning to get along but it seems to be working out all right. Bunny’s name has a story, too, but I’d rather talk about how much fun I’m having in my new home.

Scully
Well there is not much to tell other then SCULLY has a loving home and a new 3 year old step brother named Dexter. This little girl sure is a little love bug, she loves to give me kisses already and sleep in my arm even when l'm trying to write this story with one hand so l don't disturb her. She is fitting in well and l am hoping that Dexter will love her too.
Thanks to the BHS l now have my heart filled again. Lori aka Paws |
Pyxel (nee Kelly)
Facing the dilemma of a coming-up-to 18 year old cat, still healthy, but lacking the energy to play with the 15 month old, we decided to adopt a third cat. At the end of August, I brought 11 week old Kelly, now renamed Pyxel, home. Old Kali looked at her, almost visibily sighed, thinking, no doubt "not again.....", and the young cat, Pye, was terrified! Meanwhile, Pyxel settled in as if she'd always lived here and even in the face of growls and hisses continued to make advances to Pye. "Play with me," she insisted.
It took a few weeks, but now all three are best of friends. Pyxel and Kali engage in gentle play such as patty-paw on the floor, and Pyxel and Pye chase each other around the house, up the stairs, down the stairs, wrestle, box....or share a windowsill to watch the birdfeeders. At bedtime we have one at the head and one at the foot of the bed (Kali prefers her basket.) Pyxel is always ready to settle in for a cuddle in the evenings, and loves to "help" when either of us is keyboarding, or chase the cursor on the screen. Thanks for providing us with the perfect third cat!

Tigger
We just wanted to share a photo and news of a special birthday for our beloved cat Tigger. He came home with us 20 years ago from Animal Aid and will be 21 in September 2010. He is a wonderful companion and never ceases to amaze us with his antics and affection. He is still a very active cat in good health, even though his arthritis is just starting to slow him down a little bit. Keep up the good work in connecting cats like Tigger with their loving forever homes.

Rafiki (nee Sunflower)
Hi there
We brought home our new little bundle of joy about a month now, and just couldn’t be happier! Rafiki, whose name was Sunflower, is just the love of our life! She is so sweet, adorable and so playful, constantly purrringggg all the time. Rafiki, has adjusted well to her new home and is always flirting and having fun with my son and all his buddies, she hangs out with them all the time
We just love her, thank you so much for taking good care of Rafiki until she found her permanent home.
Sincerely,
Jayden and Carol |
Charlie (nee Smarties), Maggie & Georgie
Hi everyone,
Just wanted to let you know that I am settling in well at my new home. I have 2 big sisters, Maggie and and Georgie (also adopted from BHS) and they are trying to teach me manners but not very successfully as I am a wild and crazy kitten!! Maggie is grumpy but getting better and Georgie is much more tolerant of my bad behaviour......she has even been spotted giving me a quick wash!!
I have met my new vet who gave me treats and was very impressed with my spots and stripes.
I have met the vacuum cleaner (noisy), the dishwasher (nice and warm) and the TV (very interesting)...oh and the water spray bottle (very refreshing!) . Mum lets me sleep wherever I want (even in bed with my sisters) and she has discovered that when I purr (which I do often) I also drool!!!! So now she has 2 cats that 'leak' 'cos my sister Georgie does too.
I have attached some photos of me settling in and, as you can see, I have a very hard life!!
Thank you to everyone at BHS......love from Charlie, Maggie and Georgie...oh and Mum Stephanie.
Just a note to say that Charlie (nee Smarties) is settling in well and making life very 'interesting' for his 2 sisters (also adopted from BHS). They are trying hard to teach him some manners but not having much success as he is still a wild and crazy kitten!! He loves attention and purrs up a storm in return.
I have attached a couple of photos - the first one is (l to r) Maggie, Charlie and Georgie :)
Thanks again BHS.
Stephanie.

Audrey (nee Sadie)
We got Audrey December 2011. The moment I set her carrier down on my bedroom floor, she walked out and jumped on my bed and immediately started purring. She was instantly comfortable. Her and my dog get along perfectly and by the second day they were totally fine with each other. Audrey sleeps with me every night on my bed and every morning at 6-8am she wakes me up by sticking her face directly in front of mine and licking my forehead. I haven't been able to sleep in since I adopted her. She always sleeps on my stomach and purrs away. We went to see Dr. Hall and her rodent ulcers are 95% gone. We are going again soon to see if we can take her off medication. As i'm writing this email, Audrey is purring right next to me and staring at the screen as though she knows who i'm writing to. Thank you so much for having Audrey at your shelter because if you didn't, I wouldn't have the most amazing cat in the world. Happy New Year.

Patton
Hello there.
We adopted Patton a 2 year old cat from the BHS. He's been with us a week and he is taking his time getting 100% comfortable but we are patient and we are giving him his space...at times he does come out to say hi and share that wonderful "purrrrrrr" sound with us...asking for some affection...he is eating, drinking very well...we know that he will need a bit more time to totally adjust...he is a real sweetheart and we already consider him part of our family. We are thrilled to have him!!
Thank you again for taking care of him...all the veterinarians that took care of his injury behind his ear/neck, all the volunteers that fed him, cleaned his cage and all the people that work at the shelter. Thank you for giving all these pets a second chance.
Hugs

Finn & Liam (Spaghetti & Tomato)
Hello!
I adopted Spaghetti and Tomato in November. I am so very glad I did! At first they were very frightened of me and ran every time I got near them. Day by day, they have become less stressed and more friendly with me. Spaghetti (now called Finn) is the shy boy and lets Tomato (now called Liam) take the lead. They will now lay around with me on the bed when I am reading, and keep me company in the kitchen when I am cooking. Finn will even roll over on his back and let me rub his tummy; Liam is too busy to let me do that! As you can see from the photo, they are still the best of friends. Even though two beds are available, they often sleep together in one. Though they look very sedate in this photo, they are still as busy as they were when in the little window area behind reception at the BHS. They run around and around the house and sometimes will leap three feet in the air, bump chests, then run off again. In quiet moments, they groom each other and purr so loudly I need to turn up the sound on the television! The Brothers have brought great joy and entertainment to my life. I am so glad the BHS took such good care of them until we found each other. I am looking forward to many years of love and friendship. Thanks, BHS! Judith |

Kittie (nee Juno)
Hi There,They brought me home on December 17th. I was real good in car, I didn't make a sound. I like the house, three floors and I think I have managed to investigate all the rooms, cupboards and crawl spaces. The meals are regular and on demand. I am not particular about pickled herring, salmon or tuna but the cedar cheese I found on the floor wasn't bad. I have a bed in the living room but prefer the back of the sofa with my tail wrapped around HER head and my front claws combing her hair. Nothing like keeping these people well groomed. I have toys, toys and more toys. Everyone who heard I was adopted at Christmas brought me a toy. But I must say the best was when HE brought in the big tree. SHE said where the heck are you going to put that thing. I knew right away. Just put it at the top of the stairs I said. I love the thing. You climb on it, hang from it and then when you are ready you climb to top for a short nap. I can watch them very carefully, especially the one with the hair SHE keeps picking all those toys up and I just keep taking them out of the basket.Oh have I told you besides the HE and the SHE... I got an OMA ( that's German for grandmother). Oma thinks I am just perrrrrrfect. I heard her say I can feel her purr but it's just to bad I can't hear her. So the next time they brought me to Oma's house and I purred as hard as I could so she could feel it.I think they got me as a Christmas present for HER but to tell you the truth, I am in love with him. He gives the best belly rubs ever. Picture enclosed. HE listens well when I am talking and answers me all the time. I think he trying to teach me to come to his whistle, what he thinks I am a dog! Speaking of the DOGS, Christmas was not at all amusing. They had a guest and the women brought her dogs. Well I sure told those dogs who was boss. I am the diva in the house and don't forget it! The dogs didn't see me for the next three days.... I showed them who was boss. I am great at supervising the housekeeping, everyday I watch while he cleans the litter box. I climb on his shoulder and watch intently what he is doing. HE is very good at his job. Oh by the way those Christmas ornaments that went flying off the table .... not my fault... they just where there as I landed on the table....hmmmmm. Gotta run, things to do or maybe a short nap. All the best to you all in the New Year.... Best regards Kittie (aka JUNO .. they called me Jenny but I wouldn't come to that so they renamed me KITTIE) and HE made me my very own name tag with my telephone number on it.... I guess that is so I won't forget it. Erich and Susan |

HI to all the wonderful folks at the Burlington Humane Society,
Thanks again for such a good little friend. ~BettyAnne |
AC (nee Ace)
Greetings my Burlington Humane Society Peeps, Remember me? I used to be called Ace but now I’m “AC” (Black/white) and I was adopted near the end of September. I love my new home and here’s a picture of me with one of my big brothers Perkie. My other brother is Billy but he was busy napping in his hammock when Mom took this picture. I’ve settled in very nicely and it only took a few weeks to get to know my brothers (phew, good thing I’m charming). Let me tell you that life is awesome! I’ve got tons of toys and my brothers to play with all day. We chase each other and romp all around the house until we poop out and go for a nap. That’s what Perkie and I are about to do in the picture. Oh, I can’t forget to tell you that when it comes to grub time, I’m the leading vocalist in charge of calling the troops to the kitchen. Boy do my brothers appreciate that. We have the run of the house and I can be as mischievous as I want as long as I don’t get caught…tee hee. For example, I like being on the kitchen counter to look out the window. I get in trouble soooo….I wait until their gone and voila no problems. I play with Sammy Skunk and Rocky Raccoon who are my favourite fluffy toys with bells on them. I carry them all over the house and play, play, play. All I hear is giggling, hmmmm probably from whoever is watching me. Guess who they are? I get tons of loving from my Mommy and Daddy and everyone who visits. I really feel like I just won the kitty lottery. My folks feel the same way too! I hear how thrilled they are that I picked them when they tell everyone who will listen. Happy, me? You bet I am. All I hope for is that all my friends at the Burlington Humane Society get adopted into a family like mine. My paws are crossed as I look outside at night through the French doors to wish upon the star for that to come true. Lots of Love, AC

Chanel
Dear Staff & Volunteers,
Our darling Chihuahua, Chanel, whom we adopted on Nov. 26/11, is doing well and very settled into her new forever home. She is quite fond of playing with her toys and runs around the house and up and down the stairs like a tiny race horse. We're amazed how much she enjoys her daily walks and quickly prances ahead of us on our hikes. Of course, for her outings, she has a new wardrobe and booties which she doesn't mind wearing at all. One of her favourite past times is snuggling on our laps and burrowing into the blankets on the bed. Her older brother, a cocker spaniel mix, was very curious of the new arrival and now they are constantly sniffing each other's noses and rear ends. At the moment, they are snoozing contently, lying a few inches apart. We are thankful they are getting along so well and feel blessed to have our new family addition. She is the best Christmas present we've ever received. Wishing all you dedicated folks a wonderful Christmas and Holiday Season. We couldn't be more grateful and thankful for all your loving care and effort that is involved with the safe keeping of all the homeless pets at your organization. Seasons Greetings, Diane & Larry. |
Adele
I adopted Adele at the end of November. She was absolutely terrified. I have 2 other cats so I wanted to introduce them properly. Well that didn’t happen at all. I set up Adele’s room and when I went to take her out of the cage she ran right to my cat Tommy as if he was her protector from me. Every since then she will not leave him alone. She is madly in love with him and he now takes care of her. My other cat can’t really be bothered with her although she really loves him too. In this picture Adele is sleeping with Tommy who has is arm around her. This was only after 2 days of coming to her new home. Stacey |
Tuxie & Steeler (nee Scott)
We are the proud parents of Tuxie and Steeler (nee Scott). We were fortunate enough to adopt the two of them on December 5th. We love our babies...Steeler is feeling right at home...he's already found all of his favorite spots (picture) and is getting so spoiled!! Tuxie on the other hand is taking her time getting used to her surroundings...we haven't been able to take a picture of her yet as she is very, very shy and continues to find solace under our bed...when she is good and ready...she will come around...she can take all the time she needs...thank you to all at the BHS...you have been so kind and gentle...we are so grateful...this is our best Christmas ever!!
I will send another update with Tuxie's picture in the coming days....stay tuned!!

Scrooge (nee Darcy)
Hello BHS,
Just wanted to give you a quick update on Scrooge (you know him as Darcy). We adopted Scrooge during your open house day on December 17, 2011. I want to start by thanking your staff for being so patient with our family that day. We came in just a week after the death of our beloved 15 year old calico. The staff was caring, sympathetic, knowleadgable, and very patient (we were there for 3 hours). Your wonderful volunteers answered the multitude of questions we had regarding each cat we were interested in.
It was by standing back, explaining the activity level of our house, and letting the staff know what we were looking for in a pet that made all the difference. Instead of us chosing a cat based on looks, we allowed the staff to show us cats which would be suitable for our household.
When we took Scrooge out of his cage, we knew he was the one. He has adjusted very well into our family. It is as if he has been here forever. I think our dogs were the ones to be the most surprised. For years our calico ruled the roost. She was the queen of our castle with her "don't mess with me attitude". Scrooge actually seeks them out and lays with them. Our dogs were in shock, and now love to just hang out with him.
We would like to thank you for filling the gigantic void left by the loss of our precious Xena. Scrooge is exactly what we needed, and we are all surprised as to how quickly we fell in love with him. We are truly grateful.

Godot (nee Dozer)
Hi all! Just wanted to let you know that Dozer (who is now Godot) is doing wonderfully in his new home. I adopted him in September of this year but it feels like I have had him forever. The moment he was let out of his carrier, he started purring away and exploring... in fact, he hasn't stopped purring since! (And very loudly at that.) He loves to have his belly rubbed and gives very vocal thank-yous every time he is pet or fed, and everytime someone comes in the door. It is almost like having another human around. He loves to cuddle with shoes and sometimes even puts his paws inside. He also loves to sleep right next to my head all night: my purring pillow. Thank you Burlington Humane Society! We are very happy together :)

Twiggy
Hi BHS, Two years ago I walked into your shelter and was welcomed by so many nice people! It was a bad time for me and I was in search of a furry trustworthy buddy!
Since then my little girl, "Twiggy" you called her, and I kept that name for her, has been the smile in my days and nights and my door greeter too!
Thank you for all you do! I'm hoping that next year I'll be part of your Motorcycle charity ride.
Thanks again! Jodie and Twiggy Too!

Kahlua & Gambit
Hello BHS staff and volunteers!
We adopted Kahlua at Thanksgiving in 2011 as a second cat to provide lots of love to not only us but also to our first cat Gambit, who we also adopted from you! She has done just that! She's incredibly loving and affectionate and loves to cuddle her Mum, Dad and big brother. She's provided us with many laughs due to her quirky personality and her love of running and jumping off walls when she plays. She also makes tons of adorable sounds such as the chirping noise she does when you wake her up. She respects and loves Gambit and follows him everywhere. We couldn't be happier that they get along so well and we often see them cuddling or grooming each other. Thank you for taking care of our wonderful little girl until she was able to come home and thank you for the good advice on the type of cat to adopt with Gambit. You were 100% right! We're in love with this energetic new member to our young family! Hope everyone there is well; the work you do is truly selfless and incredible! Thank you! Kaylee and Anthony |
Abbey
When our beloved Jazz passed away after 14 wonderful years, my husband and I decided that we did not want to start all over with a new cat. I went to the Open House on Dec 17th to get an idea of what was involved in volunteering. My husband wanted to see Abbey after reading her story in the winter issue of the Tail-O-Gram that I brought home. He fell in love – I was not so sure. It bothered me that she had been in the shelter for such a long time – maybe she would have problems adjusting. My husband pointed out that we had the patience and the time (we are retired) to let her adjust at her own pace, even if it took months. Well to our amazement, twenty minutes after arriving at her forever home; she was on the couch pressed up against Frank. Forty minutes later she was lying on his stomach. Three hours later – well here is her picture! ABBEY was HOME for CHRISTMAS! The fact that she has such a loving nature after almost 18 months of not having her own home is due to the caring staff and volunteers at the shelter. Each one of you can be very proud of your accomplishments at the shelter – as you can see – it DOES MAKE a DIFFERENCE. I look forward to being part of that team in 2012. Frank and Florence |

Jack (nee Shadow)
Dear Burlington Humane Society Over the Labour Day weekend our family visited the Burlington Humane Society to see if we could adopt a kitten. The first room we went into we met a very cute black and white kitten. He was so affectionate and loved to snuggle and purr. We decided to take the kitten home and we named him Jack. We couldn't have asked for a nicer cat. He loves everyone.
My two daughters wanted to raise money for the Humane Society so they decided to host a gingerbread party before Christmas an in lieu of hostess gifts for themselves they asked their guests for a donation to the Humane Society. The girls were very excited to raise $160. I am very pleased to donate this money on behalf of my daughters and their friends. I hope many more animals find a home just like Jack.

Poloma (nee Copper)
We adopted Copper in the first week of January, from the BHS after looking into getting a new friend for our current cat Kitty (nee Poloma), who we also adopted from the BHS. He settled down the moment we brought him home, and now he thinks he's king of the house! Copper is a complete cuddle cat, or should I say cuddle dog. Copper seems just like a dog because he he follows us around the house, sits on the couch with us,comes when he's called and flops out on the ground randomly. He is a wonderful purry addition to the family, except Kitty is not too happy with him but she is getting much better. Copper really is a little king!

Noel (nee Tiffany)
This 5 month old kitten was delivered to our family a little early for Christmas from Santa. He realized it would be too cold to deliver her Christmas Eve. She was a great surprise to my 5 year old daughter...she wanted to be "surprised" for Christmas and she definitely was. Noel has been such a joy in our life. She is the most social, affectionate and playful cat I've ever met. She retrieves mice like a dog does a stick, licks us constantly and greets us when we get home!! She is the best gift one could have wished for. She will be loved and given much attention for the years to come Thank you Humane Society for taking such great care of her in her early months.

Lucia (nee Tabitha)
We wanted to give you an update on how Lucia (nee Tabitha) is doing! Everyone who has come by the house to meet our new addition has fallen in love, us included! She is such a sweet cat, loves to socialize, and loves to play! Being new cat owners, we ran out and bought all sorts of toys for her, however her favourites thus far have been a rolled up ball of aluminum foil and hair elastics. She will actually play fetch! We wanted to let her BHS family know that she's doing very well, and that her new family absolutely adores her.
Sincerely,
Steph, Iain and Lucia :)

Val & Piper
I adopted Val shortly after I moved into my aparment in August. It took her a bit to get used to me but treats and lots of pets are too hard to resist! I adopted Piper in the fall and they have been slowly learning how to be friends. Piper is extremely affectionate towards people and Val. Even though the later doesn't always appreciate it! They are definantly spoiled little kitties but I wouldn't trade them for anything! Thanks to Burlington Humane and all their wonderful volunteers. Stephanie |
