A Legacy of Love

Leave a Legacy through giving

Legacy gifts allow you to make a future donation to Burlington Humane Society without affecting your current financial circumstances. Regardless of the size of your planned gift you can be sure that your gift will continue to make a lasting and important impact on the animals we care for. Giving options may even substantially reduce your taxes.

The Benefits of Legacy Giving

Create a meaningful legacy – Making a legacy gift ensures that your support for the causes that are closest to your heart can continue long into the future.
Convenience – A legacy gift is easy to arrange and can be made for any amount you wish.
Enjoy Tax Savings – A legacy gift offers significant tax benefits for you and your heirs.

Charitable Bequest

A charitable bequest is simply a distribution from your estate to the Burlington Humane Society through your last will and testament.  There are a few types of charitable bequests, for example:

General Bequests are legacies left to certain people or causes that come from the general value of the estate and are made by designating a specific dollar amount or a particular asset or a fixed percentage of your estate.

Specific Bequests are made when a particular item or property is bequeathed. (i.e. a car to be used or to be sold).

Residuary Bequests are made when you intend to leave the residue portion (any leftover property) of your assets after other terms of the will have been satisfied.

Contingency Bequests allow you to leave a portion of your estate, if your named beneficiary does not survive you.

A Cash Gift is an amount made out to the Burlington Humane Society. Gifts of cash are available for immediate use in the form of cash, cheque, credit card, or pre-authorized contributions paid monthly. They can also be given in the form of a general bequest in your will and testament.

A Securities Gift is a gift of publicly traded securities directly to us. This will eliminate any taxable capital gain to yourself and you will also receive a charitable donation receipt equal to the market value of the securitie on the day it is received by us.

A Life Insurance gift is made when you name the Burlington Humane Society as the beneficiary. This means that you control the policy and the Burlington Humane Society would receive the insurance proceeds upon death.
