Silvia moved to Burlington in 2008, and began volunteering with the Burlington Humane Society’s pet therapy program in 2012, visiting local retirement homes with her bichon, Lisa. Currently, Silvia continues the “family tradition” with her second bichon, Tulie. As a director of the board, Silvia brings over 25 years of volunteer experience, encompassing causes focused on pet care, elder care, child mentoring, human rights and humanitarian endeavours. Silvia has recently expanded her roll and responsibilities in the pet therapy program to include overseeing the screening process of new pet candidates, and is looking forward to making more profound contributions at BHS. “Animals are sentient beings, deserving of the same love and care that humans bestow upon one another.”
