On Wednesday April 28th at 6pm, Malcolm Bernstein will be virtually speaking to us about the Benjamin Project, a non-profit initiative educating children on responsible pet ownership and animal stewardship, and raising funds for shelters, sanctuaries and rescue.

“Benjamin was a wonderful mixed terrier we adopted from the Ontario SPCA in 2000 at the approximate age of eighteen months. He brought us, and many other people, incalculable love and joy.

We have written two books titled Benjamin, one for children and one for adults, which we think will cheer readers and educate people about the profound qualities of pets, animals, and issues associated with their welfare. By purchasing the books and other items on our site, you help to spread the word beyond the written page.

As we reflected on our time with Benjamin, we realized that if this were to really make a difference, it would serve to educate children and youth the world over, so future generations will grow up with a deep understanding and sense of accountability for responsible pet stewardship and animal welfare.

The Benjamin Project is what emerged from these reflections.” The Benjamin Project

The event will be approximately 1.5 hours long with time for questions. Learn all about the Benjamin Project and how the organization raises funds for animal organizations just like Burlington Humane. Malcolm will also be unveiling a nationwide education program and a new scholarship program. Burlington Humane Society will be the first pilot location for the scholarship!

Scholarship winners will be awarded money towards future education (ideally it will inspire a child to pursue post-secondary studies one day in some aspect of animal welfare). They will also experience a special one on one tour of Burlington Humane, meeting the animals there, and having the opportunity to attend a 10 week kids club session at no cost (if age appropriate). The very first scholarship will be awarded during the event.

Registration for the event is by donation. You can also order a Benjamin book below with proceeds going to Burlington Humane.
